What they need
We are seeking a Design Engineer to join our growing operations team, bringing automation-ready design skills — particularly in mechanical, pneumatic, or general automation — to help drive the next generation of our conveyor and labelling systems. While we have dedicated electrical and mechanical specialists on the team, your expertise in design fundamentals and awareness of system-wide nuances will ensure designs integrate smoothly across both disciplines.
Main Responsibilities
- Design automation systems — with an emphasis on both conveyors and labelling systems — using CAD or similar design tools
- Develop comprehensive Bills of Materials (BOMs) for procurement and assembly
- Prepare technical drawings, including fabrication drawings, 3D models, and concept sketches
- Conduct site visits to assess client needs, oversee installations, and validate specifications
- Liaise with clients — understanding requirements, proposing design solutions, and guiding technical discussions
- Collaborate with mechanical and electrical engineers to ensure designs are buildable, safe, and aligned with project aims
- Support documentation,
Required skills:
- Degree or relevant qualification in Mechanical, Mechatronics, or Industrial Engineering (or equivalent proven experience)
- Proven experience designing automation equipment, including conveyors, pneumatic systems, or mechanical machinery
- Hands-on use of CAD or equivalent software in a project environment
- Working knowledge of mechanical and pneumatic principles (materials, tolerances, actuators, etc.)
- Comfortable with client-facing work, from technical discussions to on-site requirement assessments
- Strong organisational skills, with the ability to produce clean, accurate BOMs and documentation
Preferred skills:
- Previous experience working in a manufacturing or industrial setting.
- Familiarity with lean manufacturing principles or Six Sigma practices is a plus for driving process improvements.
- Exposure to conveyor design or system integration
- Basic understanding of electrical controls or PLCs — enough to collaborate effectively with peers
- Knowledge of health & safety regulations applicable to mechanical and installation work (e.g. guarding, hazard assessment)
In return, we offer you:
- A small, interactive and supportive team, ready to welcome you
- Daily engagement with your Business Line Manager, face-to-face and over the telephone
- Training throughout your career
- A competitive benefits package – including pension contribution, a laptop and smartphone.
- A satisfying career – we are passionate about development & progression of our employees
