Location: Rochdale / Hybrid – 2 days per week in the office

Onshore Technical are currently looking to speak with experienced EC&I Design Engineers for a permanent opportunity supporting projects across the UK’s gas transmission and distribution networks.

This role would suit someone with a strong electrical and instrumentation design background who is confident developing engineering drawings, completing design calculations and supporting projects through design, installation, testing and commissioning.

Ideally, candidates will be based within around one hour of Rochdale and comfortable working on a hybrid basis, with approximately two days per week in the office.

The Role

As EC&I Design Engineer, you will support the design and development of electrical and instrumentation systems across gas infrastructure projects.

The role will cover Low Voltage and Extra Low Voltage distribution, control systems, instrument monitoring systems, sensors, transmitters and associated auxiliary systems.

You will work closely with the wider design and project teams, contributing technical knowledge, developing drawings and calculations, supporting site surveys and participating in design reviews and process safety activities.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop electrical and instrumentation design drawings
• Produce single line diagrams, block cable diagrams, loop drawings, layouts, hook-ups and general arrangement drawings
• Complete electrical design calculations, including AMTECH cable calculations
• Complete DiaLux lighting calculations
• Complete instrument design calculations
• Compile electrical and instrument design dossiers
• Carry out site surveys where required
• Support HAZOPs and other process safety reviews
• Provide technical input into electrical design and installation
• Liaise with project stakeholders and wider engineering teams
• Support quality, risk management and design improvement activities
• Prepare technical reports and project documentation

Experience Required

• Minimum 3 years’ relevant EC&I / E&I design experience
• Gas transmission or gas distribution experience preferred
• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant engineering discipline
• BS7671 18th Edition
• Strong electrical and instrumentation design capability
• Experience using CAD and design software including AutoCAD, MicroStation, EPLAN, AMTECH ProDesign and/or DiaLux
• Strong analytical and technical problem-solving skills
• Good written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
• Full UK driving licence may be required

Desirable Experience

• Professional registration such as IEng or CEng, or working towards
• Hazardous area design experience
• CompEx 12
• Panel FAT testing
• Inspection and commissioning experience
• Programming or data analysis experience
