What they need

PURPOSE

The Design Engineer II independently designs, analyzes, develops, and validates Lourdes precision fluid-control, mechanical, electromechanical, and electrical products for military and commercial applications. Product families include fluid fittings; solenoid, butterfly, cartridge, shuttle, drain, check, and relief valves; pressure switches; dehydrators; swivel assemblies; and the mechanical integration of harnesses, connectors, and PCB-based assemblies. The role translates customer and system requirements into controlled designs, analyses, drawings, bills of material, test plans, and production-ready technical data while supporting qualification and product lifecycle needs.

  • Location Requirement: This position is based in Hauppauge, NY. Candidates who currently reside within a reasonable commuting distance are strongly preferred. Applicants must be able to reliably commute to the facility for the required work schedule.
  • 100% Employer-Paid Benefits: We cover 100% of your health, dental, and vision insurance premiums.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES/AUTHORITY

  • · Requirements and Design Definition: Interpret customer specifications, statements of work, interface requirements, and environmental conditions; establish traceable design inputs, concepts, architecture, interfaces, and verification methods.
  • · Product Design: Develop robust mechanical and electromechanical designs for assigned product families, including materials, seals, springs, actuators, interfaces, fasteners, connectors, and packaging appropriate to pressure, flow, temperature, vibration, life, and environmental requirements.
  • · CAD and Technical Data: Create and maintain accurate 3D models, layouts, detail and assembly drawings, specifications, bills of material, interface data, and design documentation using applicable drafting, GD&T, and configuration-control requirements.
  • · Engineering Analysis: Perform or coordinate pressure, flow, stress, deflection, fatigue, thermal, tolerance-stack, material, reliability, and similarity analyses appropriate to the design; document assumptions, margins, and conclusions.
  • · Risk Management: Lead or support DFMEAs, design reviews, trade studies, reliability assessments, and risk-retirement plans; identify critical characteristics and translate design risk into verification and manufacturing controls.
  • · Verification and Qualification: Develop and execute development, qualification, similarity, and acceptance test plans and reports; define test fixtures and instrumentation, analyze results, resolve failures, and demonstrate compliance with customer requirements.
  • · NPI and Production Support: Partner with Manufacturing and Quality Engineering on DFM/DFA, prototypes, first articles, production readiness, supplier technical issues, test failures, nonconformances, and sustainable corrective actions.
  • · Configuration and Change Control: Prepare and process engineering releases and changes; maintain design baselines and ensure drawings, specifications, BOMs, ERP records, and supporting analyses remain accurate and aligned.
  • · Project Execution: Plan and execute assigned design projects, manage technical actions and risks, communicate status, support customer and supplier reviews, and meet performance, cost, schedule, and documentation commitments.
  • · Authority: Make design decisions within assigned scope and approved requirements; identify unacceptable technical risk and elevate matters requiring Design Authority, MRB, customer, or management approval.
  • ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
  • · Provide technical concepts, compliance assessments, estimates, assumptions, and risk input for RFQs and proposals.
  • · Support MRB and failure investigations with technically justified analysis while preserving applicable design and customer approval authority.
  • · Research materials, components, manufacturing methods, standards, and emerging technologies; recommend practical product and lifecycle improvements.
  • · Mentor junior engineers and drafters and check assigned technical work for accuracy, completeness, and configuration consistency.
  • · Perform other related duties consistent with the position and business needs.
