Design Engineer/Naval Architect (Full Time)

About the role

We are looking for a Design Engineer/Naval Architect to manage the development of multiple propulsion projects in our Batam workshop. In this role, you will work with our UK based Engineers, Naval Architects and our Research & Development centre to supervise our Asia engineering responsibilities. The role includes the design, proposal development, Class submittal and development of workshop drawings to support the manufacturing of our Marine Shafting, Stern Gear, Rudder fabrication production and the Propeller servicing /repair engineering functions.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and manage technical drawings for client approval, Class society submittal and production requirements, in liaison with our UK head office.
• Conduct research and prepare technical proposals for the Sales and Production Dept.
• Develop and broaden relationships with existing customers and future opportunities to maximise business growth.
• Communicate regularly with the Asia Director and our UK Engineering Dept.
• Assess appropriate propulsion packages in conjunction with the UK Engineering Dept.
• Provide customers with advice, guidance and commercial proposals.
• Work in coordination with our quality engineers to ensure all systems and equipment is correctly manufactured as designed.
• Investigate and diagnose technical issues, and implement effective repairs.
• Prepare required Reports: Power & Speed Prediction, Shaft & Keyway, and associated engineered reports.
• Liaise on material sourcing and ordering in coordination with management and procurement department.

About you

• Bachelor's degree in marine engineering, naval architect or similar.
• A minimum of 3 years' experience as a marine engineer or similar.
• Experience with engineering design software such as AutoCAD/ZW-CAD, Rhino, and Fusion 360.
• Bilingual – fluent in written and spoken Bahasa and English.
• An understanding and experience of propulsion equipment and naval construction processes.
• Self-motivated, with highly developed organizational skills and an autonomous, "can-do" approach to problem-solving.
• Excellent analytical thinking, with the aptitude to produce solutions on their own initiative.
• A sound working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word, etc.).
• Ability to communicate effectively with colleagues and customers, including technical information, both in person and by phone.
