A leading Tier 1 main contractor is looking to recruit an experienced Design Manager to join a major £50m construction project in Cardiff. This is an excellent opportunity to work on a high-profile development, taking responsibility for design coordination from pre-construction through to project completion.

The successful candidate will have a strong background in design management within a main contractor environment, with experience delivering large-scale construction projects and coordinating multidisciplinary design teams.

What you'll be doing

• Leading the design management process throughout the project lifecycle, from pre-construction through to completion
• Managing and coordinating design consultants, subcontractors and project stakeholders
• Reviewing and coordinating architectural, structural and MEP design information
• Ensuring designs meet building regulations, planning conditions and client requirements
• Managing design programmes and ensuring information is delivered in line with construction milestones
• Identifying and managing design risks, technical challenges and buildability issues
• Chairing design team meetings and reporting progress to senior management
• Working closely with commercial and operational teams to support successful project delivery
• Ensuring quality, sustainability, health and safety standards are maintained throughout the project

What we're looking for

• Proven experience as a Design Manager within the construction industry
• Experience working for a main contractor on large-scale construction projects, ideally valued at £20m+
• Strong technical knowledge of building design, construction methods and project delivery
• Good understanding of UK building regulations, planning requirements and construction processes
• Degree or equivalent qualification in Construction, Architecture, Engineering or a related discipline
