Job Title: Design Release Engineer

Location: Auburn Hills, MI (Onsite)

What's the Job?

  • Manage the full life cycle of assigned components and sub-assemblies, including defining requirements, conceptual design, supplier sourcing, manufacturing, validation, industrialization, and serial life maintenance (e.g., field issue resolution and warranty reduction).
  • Design and release responsibility for key components for structures, seals and fastener components (e.g., cast aluminum cases, oil pans, center supports, seals, fasteners).
  • Lead change-management activities for assigned components, ensuring design best practices, lessons learned, and continuous improvements are integrated into the product design release process.
  • Own technical infrastructure evolution for key components, including documentation, specifications, requirements definitions, and drawing signoffs.
  • Drive supplier sourcing and industrialization, including production part approval processes, and lead warranty and quality topics related to assigned components and systems.

What's Needed?

  • A minimum of a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET accredited school or equivalent.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in propulsion systems, automatic transmissions, or a related field.
  • Understanding of system engineering within automatic transmissions and electric drive units.
  • Previous experience as a DRE in OEM and tier 1 suppliers to OEMs.
  • Proficiency in GD&T, creating drawings of components, and virtual analysis.

What's in it for me?

  • Opportunity to own component life-cycle outcomes—from requirements through serial life maintenance and warranty reduction.
  • Work within a COE environment focused on structures, seals, and fastener components, with a strong emphasis on continuous improvement.
  • Lead change management and technical infrastructure evolution, including documentation, specifications, and drawing signoffs.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure design interfaces and requirements are met across programs.
  • Contribute to cost optimization and value creation for assigned components.
