Design Supervisor

The Design Supervisor oversees the audit & design teams and is responsible for the accuracy, quality, and consistency of project designs. This role provides technical leadership, establishes design standards, and reviews designs to ensure they reflect site conditions, meet project requirements, and support successful installation. The Design Supervisor works closely with engineering, project management, and installation teams to resolve technical challenges and improve design processes from initial assessment through project completion.

This is not a remote position. Candidates must be within driving distance to Akron, Ohio, with flexibility to travel to customer sites for design audits and installation design oversight.

Key Responsibilities

• Supervise the audit & design teams, providing direction, setting priorities, reviewing performance, and supporting professional development.
• Plan, execute and supervise design audits along with end-to-end design process.
• Establish and maintain design standards, review procedures, and quality control processes to ensure accurate, consistent, and complete project documentation.
• Review site audits and assessments to confirm that existing conditions, measurements, equipment, and installation constraints are properly documented and incorporated into designs.
• Review drawings, layouts, calculations, specifications, and equipment selections for accuracy, completeness, and alignment with project scope and customer requirements.
• Approve designs for release within assigned authority and coordinate required reviews with engineering professionals.
• Confirm that designs address applicable building codes, safety standards, manufacturer requirements, and site-specific conditions.
• Identify design errors, omissions, and conflicts before production, procurement or installation. Ensure necessary corrections are completed and documented.
• Collaborate with engineering, project management, manufacturing, and installation teams to ensure designs are practical, cost-effective, and achievable.
• Manage design workloads, priorities, and review timelines to support project schedules and provide adequate time for quality checks.
• Oversee design revisions and document control, ensuring teams have access to current, approved drawings and specifications.
• Provide technical guidance on complex design issues and resolve questions or discrepancies that arise during installation.
• Evaluate field feedback, installation issues, and completed project results to identify recurring concerns and improve future design accuracy.
• Ensure design changes are reviewed for their impact on project scope, cost, schedule, and performance, and communicated to the appropriate teams.
• Maintain accountability for design quality through regular reviews, corrective actions, training, and continuous improvement.
• Develop and create a team training plan to achieve high-quality results.

Skills Needed

• Strong proficiency in design software, such as AutoCAD, Revit, or similar programs, with the ability to review detailed drawings, layouts, and technical documentation.
• Strong understanding of applicable building codes, safety standards, equipment specifications, and installation practices.
• Ability to verify design calculations, measurements, equipment selections, and overall design completeness.
• Proven ability to supervise personnel, establish clear expectations, and provide constructive feedback.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to identify design deficiencies and develop practical solutions.
• Ability to manage multiple projects, balance competing priorities, and meet deadlines while maintaining design quality.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills to explain technical requirements and coordinate with customers, internal teams, and field crews.
• Ability to develop and enforce consistent design standards, review procedures, and documentation practices.

Pay: $60,000.00 - $100,000.00 per year
