Designer/ Drafter

Overall Purpose of the Job Work within Engineering team and under supervision to produce the required technical documentation to fulfil the requirements of the specific projects being worked on within area of responsibility.

Key Activities And Accountabilities

• Create and maintain engineering documentation including detailed drawings, 3D models, assemblies, bills of materials (BOMs), equipment layouts, schematics, and manufacturing documentation in accordance with project requirements, engineering standards, and established schedules.
• Support product and equipment design activities from concept development through final release, including drafting, modeling, detailing, and design modifications under the guidance of senior engineers or engineering management.
• Perform drawing, model, and documentation reviews to verify compliance with design intent, customer requirements, industry standards, manufacturing requirements, and company procedures.
• Generate and revise 3D models, assemblies, and associated engineering documentation using CAD software such as SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Inventor, or similar design platforms.
• Manage engineering data and document control activities by entering, maintaining, and releasing engineering documentation through Product Data Management (PDM) systems and other engineering databases.
• Upload, maintain, and organize engineering information within company databases and utilize technical software tools to support engineering, manufacturing, and project execution activities.
• Collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, quality, sales, procurement, and field service teams to ensure designs are practical, manufacturable, cost-effective, and aligned with customer requirements.
• Participate in engineering meetings, project reviews, design reviews, and continuous improvement initiatives by providing technical input and recommendations.
• Interface with internal and external stakeholders to resolve technical questions, clarify requirements, and communicate project status. Escalate concerns or technical issues to the Engineering Manager as appropriate.
• Assist with the development, maintenance, and improvement of engineering standards, drawing practices, templates, and design procedures.

Required Qualifications Job Knowledge and Qualifications

• Associate degree, technical diploma, certification, or equivalent experience in Drafting, Design Technology, Mechanical Design, Engineering Technology, or a related field.
• Proficiency in at least one major CAD platform, such as SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Inventor, or similar 2D/3D design software.
• Ability to create and interpret engineering, assembly, and fabrication drawings, as well as bills of materials.
• Experience with document control systems, PDM software, or engineering databases.
• Strong attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
• Effective communication and collaboration skills with cross-functional teams.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in oilfield, energy, industrial equipment, manufacturing, or heavy equipment industries.
• Advanced SolidWorks experience, including assemblies, weldments, sheet metal, configurations, and drawing packages.
• Experience progressing from a Drafter role into a Design or Mechanical Designer position.
• Familiarity with PLM and PDM systems.
• Knowledge of manufacturing, machining, fabrication, welding, and assembly processes.
• Experience supporting new product development, equipment redesign, or custom-engineered solutions.
• Knowledge of applicable industry standards and engineering best practices.
