The Job

The Department of Child Support Services is recruiting for Supervising Child Support Officers who supervise Child Support Officers, Child Support Assistants, and a clerical staff. Successful candidates will be placed on the eligible list for six months.

Essential Functions

• Assign and evaluate the work of Child Support Officers, Child Support Assistants and clerical staff; develop training plan for new employees.
• Plan and direct workflow to assure that cases are updated and in compliance with statutes, rules and regulations; assist the compliance officer in establishing and implementing corrective action plan.
• Participate effectively as a team member assigned to special projects; process the more difficult and sensitive cases; oversee the preparation of court cases.
• Maintain statistical records and prepare reports and correspondence.

Education Minimum Requirements

Thirty semester (45 quarter) units of completed college coursework in social/behavioral science, public/business administration, administration of justice, English, math or humanities.

Experience Three years of Child Support Officer required.

Substitutions Child Support Officer experience can be substituted for education on the basis of six months experience for 15 semester (23 quarter) units in the areas listed above. One year as a lead worker or full-scope supervisor over technical level staff may substitute for a MAXIMUM of one year of the required child support experience.

Conditions of Employment Incumbents in this class will be required to go to multiple sites which requires the ability to drive or provide other arrangements for transportation. At time of hire, a valid California driver's license and proof of automobile liability insurance must be produced for the individual providing the transportation. Applicants must be willing to accept assignment, as needed, to any of the branch offices which are located in Loma Linda (San Bernardino), Victorville and Rancho Cucamonga. Candidates' preference of geographic location will be taken into consideration, whenever possible, depending on staffing needs.

Selection Process

Skills The selection process will consist of an examination to be administered on April 18th & 19th, 2007 and will consist of a Written Test and Work Simulation Writing Exercise which will evaluate knowledge and skills in the following areas:

Writing Skills

Candidates must pass both exams in order to be placed on the eligible list. Only those candidates who pass the Written Examination will have the Writing Exercise portion graded. The final score will be a combination of the exam scores. Applicants scheduled for examinations must show photo identification or equivalent.
