Detention Officer

Madison County Detention Center is seeking dependable, professional individuals to join our team. We are an adult detention center, and detention officers are responsible for maintaining the safety, security, and orderly operation of the facility.

Job Responsibilities

• Supervise adult inmates and enforce facility rules.
• Conduct security checks, inmate counts, and searches.
• Escort inmates within the facility.
• Respond to incidents and emergencies.
• Prepare accurate reports and maintain required documentation.
• Treat inmates, coworkers, and the public professionally and respectfully.

Schedule and Requirements

• Officers work 12-hour shifts on a rotating schedule, including every other weekend.
• Applicants must be available to work either day or night shift. Assignments are based on agency needs; a particular shift cannot be guaranteed.
• Applicants must be willing to submit to a background check and drug test.
• Officers must maintain a professional appearance. Male officers may not have long hair and must keep facial hair well groomed.

Interview Information

• The interview process takes approximately 2–3 hours.
• Bring your birth certificate, valid driver’s license, Social Security card, and diploma on the day of your interview.
• You will complete a background questionnaire during the interview process. All questions must be answered honestly and completely.

Pay: $21.50 per hour

Expected hours: 40.0 per week
