Development Coordinator

Company Description Vortex Media is a boutique production company that internally develops, produces, and self-finances a diverse slate of features and made-for-TV movies. Vortex is known for creating compelling, high-quality content with international appeal.

Role Description:

Hybrid Position - 2-3 days in office per week, as required by manager (East York, ON)

• Support the development team on projects from the initial idea stage through to pre-production or greenlighting, including offering creative ideas
• Provide detailed script notes on all projects in development with a keen eye for story and marketability
• Support various writing needs as required
• Source new intellectual property, research story ideas, and help build pitch decks and 2-pagers
• Read and evaluate incoming pitch and script submissions, providing coverage and analysis
• Read and assess writing samples for potential new writers
• Research competitor projects, market trends, and potential writers
• Schedule internal and external meetings and take detailed notes
• Provide administrative duties as required, such as maintaining internal databases and submission logs, tracking invoices and writer's agreements
• Establish professional connections with agents and writers

Required Skills:

• 2+ years working in film or television production or creative development
• Love of film and television with affection for TV movies
• Ability to track multiple scripts and balance shifting creative priorities under tight deadlines
• Exceptional verbal and written skills for pitching ideas, delivering constructive script notes, and providing script coverage
• Professional interpersonal skills for working with writers and agents
• Strong background in screenwriting, creative writing, or script coverage
• Proficiency in Google Drive, Adobe Acrobat, Final Draft, Canva, and Microsoft Office. Personal computer is required.
