Development Engineer

We are looking for a proactive and innovative Development Engineer to join our team. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in the development and introduction of advanced manufacturing technologies for innovative contact lens and intraocular lens products. The role is based onsite daily at Saffron Walden CB11 3AU.

Role Duties

• Support the prototyping, development and industrialisation of new contact lens and intraocular lens products and manufacturing processes.
• Design and maintain engineering drawings, assemblies and technical documentation using CAD software.
• Develop and manage insert moulding tools and tooling projects from concept through to production implementation.
• Specify, source and procure components, materials and equipment for development projects.
• Support the installation, commissioning, testing and qualification of new manufacturing equipment.
• Develop and modify machine control software, automation systems and equipment programming where required.
• Identify and implement continuous improvement initiatives to enhance productivity, quality, reliability and manufacturing efficiency.
• Investigate equipment and process issues, conducting root cause analysis and implementing effective engineering solutions.
• Prepare technical reports, specifications, risk assessments, validation documents and project updates.

Person Specification

Essential:

• A degree, HND or equivalent qualification in Mechanical Engineering, General Engineering or a related discipline.
• Experience using 2D and 3D CAD software for engineering design and drawing creation.
• Practical engineering experience involving problem-solving, innovative design and project delivery.
• A hands-on approach with a natural curiosity and enthusiasm for developing new ideas and technologies.
• Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.
• The ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams.
• Excellent communication, organisation and time-management skills.

Benefits

• Salary Range: £32,000 - £38,000 DOE
• Hours: 09:00-17:00 Monday to Friday (37.5 hrs p/w)
