What they need

About First Foundation - He kōrero mō First Foundation is working to level the playing field so that socio-economic status doesn’t stand in the way of bright young Kiwis achieving their dreams. By providing financial assistance, paid work experience and a dedicated mentor, they support students to step confidently from school into tertiary study and meaningful careers.

They are powered by a network of businesses, trusts and personal funders who share their vision. Scholars, often the first in their whānau to attend university, say their lives are forever changed by the connections and support they receive.

**About the role -**He kōrero mō te tūranga You will join a close-knit team, determined to create a brighter future for talented young people.  This newly developed fundraising role will contribute to growth plans to sustainably increase the number of fully funded scholarships, offering more capable young kiwis the chance to succeed.

Reporting to the CEO, and working closely with the Philanthropy and Communities Manager, grants will be a big focus.  You’ll own a high-volume grant pipeline, researching and assessing potential funders, identifying where there is strong alignment with First Foundation’s mission to develop compelling submissions.

This includes:

  • Working with the stakeholder engagement group, to coordinate, prioritise and hold deadlines so revenue comes in through the team’s combined capability.
  • Develop and submit high-quality grant applications, managing the pipeline, calendar and reporting requirements.
  • Work with the team to develop strong submissions and identify funding opportunities
  • Maintain accurate grant, donor and stewardship information, coordinating and supporting major donors and gifts in wills activity
  • Build relationships with potential funders and contribute to a mix of regular giving campaigns and events.

What you’ll bring - He kōrero mōu
Ideally tertiary qualified, you bring experience in grant writing and managing multiple submissions to deadline ideally within the not for profit, philanthropic or social impact sector.  You understand that sustainable growth requires both strong relationships and robust processes. You know how to research opportunities, assess capability, and manage deadlines.

You’re a natural storyteller who can quickly get to the heart of what matters, translating impact, information and ideas into compelling submissions.  You’re comfortable building relationships with potential funders and also getting your head down and producing a high volume of quality grant applications to deadline.

Organised and technology savvy, you’re confident using CRM systems, AI tools and data to research, build and maintain a pipeline. Detail orientated, you enjoy the accuracy required in grant writing, you don’t cut corners.

Curious about impact, you’ll connect with First Foundations purpose and stay close enough to the scholars and their stories to make a compelling case.

**What you’ll get -**Nā mātou te rourou
It’s not just what you do at First Foundation that matters, but how you do it, “it’s how they roll”.

We’re on your side | We do our very best | We’re constantly curious| We do the right thing

This is your chance to bring your experience and ideas into a values-led organisation, contributing to growth that enables long-term impact for Scholars, while developing in your own career.
