Working closely with the Executive Director and in support of the Board of Directors and Development Committee, the Development Manager helps implement established fundraising priorities and annual development plans.

The individual in this role is responsible for managing Development Department staff and contract workers.

This is a hands-on role requiring exceptional organization, attention to detail, follow-through, and relationship management. A primary responsibility of the position is ensuring that accurate and comprehensive donor records and development data are maintained and properly interpreted so that the Executive Director, Board, and Development Committee have timely and reliable information to guide fundraising strategy and decision-making.

The Development Manager also manages donor communications, fundraising appeals, events, grants, stewardship activities, and other development initiatives. The successful candidate will be highly dependable, personable, mission-driven, and comfortable interacting with a wide range of constituents, including donors, prospective donors, volunteers, Board members, community partners, and staff.

This is an onsite position, with occasional local or regional travel for fundraising events. VIRTUS training, anti-harassment training, and background checks will be required.

RESPONSIBILITIES ALSO INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING:

  • Stay informed about fundraising technology, donormanagement systems, and other development tools; recommend improvements to the Executive Director that enhance efficiency, accuracy, and effectiveness.
  • Prepare timely reports and analyses for the Executive Director, Board, and Development Committee to inform annual planning, donor cultivation and stewardship, and fundraising decisions.
  • Monitor fundraising activity and progress toward established goals and provide regular updates to leadership.
  • Maintain development calendars, donor and mailing lists, event records, and other systems that support organized and effective fundraising operations.
  • Support Malta House’s planned and legacy giving program by maintaining and distributing donor information, tracking prospective and confirmed legacy donors, and assisting the Executive Director and Development Committee in strengthening the program.
  • Track event revenue and expenses and prepare postevent reports and analyses.
  • Manage Malta House’s grant calendar and submission process, ensuring proposals, reports, and supporting materials are accurate, complete, and submitted on schedule.
  • Maintain a current library of organizational information, statistics, program descriptions, outcomes, budgets, and other content used in grant applications, donor communications, and fundraising initiatives.
  • Collaborate with staff and outside resources to ensure communications accurately and compellingly convey Malta House’s mission, programs, and impact.
  • Represent Malta House with professionalism, warmth, and care in interactions with donors, prospective donors, volunteers, community partners, and other constituents.
  • Other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
  • Minimum of five years of experience in nonprofit development, fundraising, donor relations, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated proficiency working with donor/fundraising databases and development technology, with a strong commitment to data accuracy, organization, and record keeping.
  • Experience coordinating fundraising campaigns, appeals, donor communications, and events.
  • Exceptional organizational and projectmanagement skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Outstanding attention to detail and a demonstrated record of reliable followthrough.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to interact professionally and warmly with donors, prospective donors, Board members, volunteers, staff, and community partners.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, virtual meeting platforms, and donormanagement systems. Familiarity with social media and digital communications.
  • Ability and willingness to work occasional evenings and weekends for fundraising and donor events.
  • Discreet and trustworthy in handling confidential donor and organizational information.
