Company Description

About KIPP TEAM & Family

KIPP TEAM & Family is our network office that includes support teams - such as Leadership Development, Recruitment, Advocacy, Facilities, Finance, HR and more - dedicated to empowering our schools and ensuring the success of KIPP students throughout New Jersey and Miami. Our schools are part of the nationally recognized “Knowledge Is Power Program” network of free, open-enrollment, college-preparatory public schools dedicated to preparing students for success in college and in life. The first KIPP New Jersey school opened in Newark in 2002 and since then our school network has expanded to educate 8,135 students in grades K-12. By 2025, KIPP New Jersey will provide a world-class education to over 10,300 students across fifteen schools in Newark and five in Camden.

In 2018, we grew our KIPP community in response to a need for high-quality school options for students in Greater Miami’s Urban Core communities. That led to the creation of KIPP Miami, which currently educates more than 1,000 students in four schools, with plans to reach 5,800 students by 2025. By offering highly effective educators with strong bonds to families, more time in school learning, services that support a variety of student needs, and a culture focused on achievement, our students in New Jersey and Miami are on the path to and through college, career, and choice-filled lives.

Job Description

The Development Manager, Events & Operations supports and executes the Development department’s systems, events, centralized gift recognition and stewardship activities, and key cross-team projects, including the annual report and cyclical appeals. Equal parts event producer and operations engine, this role enables the Advancement team to work efficiently through strong planning, organization, service, and follow-through across New Jersey and Miami.

Key Responsibilities

Event Planning

  • Plan and execute a high volume of development events in New Jersey and Miami that contribute to annual revenue goals, from ribbon cuttings and board meetings to the annual 300-person gala
  • Partner with the Chief Growth & Advancement Officer and State Managing Directors of Development on event concepts, goals, solicitations, and planning priorities
  • Create and manage overlapping production and project plans with clear responsibilities, tasks, and deadlines
  • Oversee venues, contracts, budgets, staffing, menus, floor plans, seating, transportation, signage, décor, lighting, programming, and photography
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with staff, donors, vendors, and partners
  • Monitor and evaluate event outcomes and recommend improvements

Donor Stewardship & Recognition

  • Support centralized stewardship and recognition activities, including volunteer tutoring, plaques, thank-you gifts, and handwritten notes
  • Support centralized appeals through email and postal mail
  • Serve as the Advancement team’s liaison with Marketing/Communications for the year-end annual report and other cross-team projects

Operations

  • Complete gift entry, acknowledgement, collection, and reconciliation activities in Raiser’s Edge
  • Support teamwide data-entry initiatives to maintain a complete and accurate donor database
  • Support management of departmental expenses, subscriptions, and account tracking
  • Provide logistical support for departmental meetings, retreats, and cross-team projects, including scheduling, agendas, note-taking, and team communication
  • Support frontline fundraisers with donor research, meeting preparation and follow-up, and activity logging
  • Complete other administrative and operational tasks in support of teamwide goals and initiatives

Qualifications

Skills

  • Project management, organization, and meticulous attention to detail
  • Event and program planning from concept through completion
  • Vendor and partner coordination, contract negotiation, and relationship management
  • Budget development, expense tracking, and financial reporting
  • Strong written and verbal communication across a wide range of audiences
  • Proficiency with productivity and database software; Raiser’s Edge experience is strongly preferred

Abilities

  • Manage multiple projects, competing deadlines, and shifting priorities without losing attention to detail
  • Delegate and coordinate work across peers and external stakeholders while maintaining accountability
  • Anticipate needs and respond promptly with a calm, service-oriented approach
  • Troubleshoot effectively under time pressure in fast-moving, deadline-driven environments

Additional Information

Location

Candidates who can work from one of our New Jersey offices will be given preference for this role.
