What they need

THE ROLE

Build and maintain the infrastructure that powers modern cloud-native applications at scale. Own the complete CI/CD ecosystem, cloud architecture, and systems reliability that enables development teams to move fast. You'll report directly to the Infrastructure Lead, command complete autonomy over deployment strategy and infrastructure design, and become the trusted technical authority for reliability and scaling across the organisation.

This isn't about firefighting production incidents or managing inherited legacy systems—it's about architecting resilience, automating away toil, and making deployment and infrastructure a competitive advantage. You'll work with developers daily, shape how the organisation scales, and build systems that teams rely on.

WHO IS THIS FOR

This is for a systems administrator or infrastructure engineer who understands that great infrastructure enables everything else. You're skilled at the fundamentals—Linux, cloud platforms, networking, security—and you want to build. You think about infrastructure as strategy: how deployments scale, how reliability improves, how automation removes toil.

You're comfortable with code and understand that infrastructure-as-code is not optional. You want autonomy, you want to solve real problems, and you want to work with developers and teams that respect what reliable infrastructure enables.

WHAT WE DO

We build products and services that solve real problems at scale. Our infrastructure handles millions of requests daily, supports distributed teams across timezones, and maintains the reliability standards that customers depend on. Now we're scaling our infrastructure capabilities and need someone who can own it end-to-end.

WHAT YOU'LL OWN

  • Cloud Infrastructure (AWS/Azure)

Design, deploy, maintain, and evolve cloud infrastructure across the organisation. EC2/compute instances, RDS/managed databases, S3/object storage, load balancers, auto-scaling groups. Infrastructure-as-code (Terraform, CloudFormation) — define infrastructure in version control. Network architecture, VPCs, security groups, routing, and network segmentation. Cost optimisation and resource monitoring across cloud services.

  • CI/CD Pipelines & Deployment Automation

Design and maintain complete CI/CD infrastructure (GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, Jenkins, or similar). Automated testing, building, and deployment workflows. Container orchestration (Kubernetes, Docker Swarm, or ECS/Fargate). Release management, blue-green deployments, canary releases. Rollback strategies and deployment safety.

  • Containerisation & Orchestration

Docker containerisation standards and best practices. Container registry management (ECR, Docker Hub, or similar). Kubernetes cluster administration, node management, resource allocation. Helm charts and deployment automation. Container security and vulnerability scanning.

  • Systems Reliability & Monitoring

Observability infrastructure — metrics, logs, tracing (Prometheus, DataDog, New Relic, ELK, or similar). Alerting and on-call infrastructure. Incident response procedures and runbooks. Performance optimisation and capacity planning. Chaos engineering and resilience testing.

  • Security & Compliance

Infrastructure security hardening. Secret management and rotation (Vault, AWS Secrets Manager). Network security, firewalls, and DDoS protection. Compliance frameworks (SOC2, HIPAA, GDPR, or industry-specific). Vulnerability scanning and patching.

  • Infrastructure Automation & Code

Write infrastructure-as-code (Terraform, Ansible, Puppet, or CloudFormation). Write automation scripts (Bash, Python, Go, or similar). Version control and change management for infrastructure. Document infrastructure architecture and operational procedures.

WHAT YOU BRING

  • Cloud Platform Expertise (5+ years combined)

3+ years hands-on experience building and managing cloud infrastructure (AWS, Azure, or GCP). Deep knowledge of compute (EC2/VMs), storage (S3/blob), databases (RDS/managed SQL), and networking. Infrastructure-as-code experience (Terraform, CloudFormation, or equivalent). Cost optimisation and cloud architecture patterns.

  • CI/CD & Deployment Pipeline Expertise (3+ years)

3+ years designing and maintaining CI/CD pipelines. GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, Jenkins, or equivalent platform. Automated testing and deployment workflows. Container deployment experience (Docker, Kubernetes, or similar).

  • Linux Systems Administration (5+ years)

5+ years Linux systems administration in production environments. Ubuntu, CentOS, or RHEL expertise. Shell scripting (Bash) and automation. Service management, package management, user/permission administration. Log management and system troubleshooting.

  • Soft Skills

Think strategically about infrastructure and scaling. Communicate clearly with developers and leadership. Collaborative problem-solving. Responsive and reliable — on-call mentality. Passionate about reliability, automation, and simplification.

HOW SUCCESS LOOKS

Infrastructure is modernised and scaled. Developers deploy with confidence. Incident severity and frequency decrease. Infrastructure becomes a competitive advantage, not a constraint.
