The Qualifications We Seek

Education

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or an equivalent qualification.

Skills & Experience

• 3 to 5 years of experience in software engineering, DevOps, or a related technical role, or an equivalent combination of education and professional experience.
• Strong understanding of Ruby on Rails application architecture and deployment best practices.
• Hands-on experience with platform-as-a-service (PaaS) providers, particularly Heroku and Railway, and AWS cloud infrastructure .
• Proficiency in GitHub Actions or similar continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD) tools .
• Experience with automated testing frameworks, particularly Playwright or comparable tools .
• Strong knowledge of PostgreSQL database management and performance optimization .
• Understanding of microservices architecture and inter-service communication patterns.
• Experience with application performance monitoring, optimization, and diagnostic tools, including Datadog , New Relic , CloudWatch , or Papertrail .
• Familiarity with extract, transform, and load (ETL) processes and data pipeline development.
• Strong troubleshooting and debugging skills in production environments.

Preferred Qualifications

• Knowledge of Kubernetes and Docker for containerization and microservices orchestration.
• Ability to read and interpret Ruby code to diagnose application-level issues.

Your Daily Tasks

Essential Duties

• Manage deployment pipelines to ensure smooth, reliable application releases across multiple environments.
• Maintain and update application packages and dependencies to ensure the security and stability of Ruby on Rails applications.
• Oversee server infrastructure across Heroku, Railway, AWS, and Render.
• Implement and maintain GitHub Actions workflows to automate continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD) processes.
• Develop and maintain automated Playwright test frameworks within deployment pipelines.
• Monitor application performance and identify opportunities to optimize database queries, resolve N+1 query issues, and improve API integrations.
• Implement and maintain comprehensive server logs and application performance monitoring solutions.
• Design and execute extract, transform, and load (ETL) processes to support business operations and data analytics.
• Diagnose and resolve production issues to maintain application availability and uptime.
• Collaborate with development teams to align application architecture with deployment requirements.
• Optimize microservices architecture to ensure reliable service communication and orchestration.
• Implement performance improvements based on application metrics and system performance data.
• Conduct regular security updates and manage patches for application dependencies.
• Perform database maintenance, including backups, migrations, and performance optimization.
• Implement and maintain application health checks and uptime monitoring systems.
