About the Role

AWS Geek is looking for a skilled and detail-oriented DevOps Engineer to manage application deployment, cloud infrastructure, and production environments using Amazon Web Services (AWS).

The candidate will be responsible for deploying and maintaining websites, web applications, mobile application backends, APIs, and other software solutions. The role involves managing AWS infrastructure, automating deployment workflows, monitoring application performance, troubleshooting production issues, and ensuring the security, scalability, and reliability of deployed applications.

The ideal candidate should have hands-on experience with AWS services, Linux servers, CI/CD pipelines, cloud networking, and production deployment workflows.

Key Responsibilities1. AWS Cloud Infrastructure Management

• Design, configure, deploy, and maintain cloud infrastructure using AWS.
• Manage AWS services such as EC2, S3, IAM, VPC, CloudWatch, Route 53, RDS, and Elastic Load Balancing.
• Configure development, staging, and production environments.
• Manage server resources, storage, networking, and access permissions.
• Ensure high availability, scalability, reliability, and security of cloud infrastructure.
• Monitor AWS resource utilization and optimize infrastructure costs.

2. Application Deployment & Release Management

• Deploy websites, web applications, backend services, APIs, and mobile application backends to AWS.
• Manage application hosting, server configurations, environment variables, and dependencies.
• Configure domains, DNS records, SSL/TLS certificates, and HTTPS.
• Coordinate with frontend and backend developers to ensure smooth deployments.
• Manage production releases, rollback procedures, and version updates.
• Troubleshoot failed deployments, server errors, configuration issues, and application downtime.

3. CI/CD Pipeline & Automation

• Design, implement, and maintain CI/CD pipelines for automated building, testing, and deployment.
• Work with Git, GitHub Actions, AWS CodePipeline, and AWS CodeBuild.
• Automate repetitive infrastructure and deployment tasks using Bash, Python, or other scripting tools.
• Implement reliable release workflows across development, staging, and production environments.
• Reduce manual deployment efforts and improve release consistency.

4. Containerization & Infrastructure as Code

• Containerize applications using Docker.
• Deploy and manage containerized applications using AWS ECS, ECR, or other suitable services.
• Implement Infrastructure as Code using Terraform, AWS CloudFormation, or AWS CDK.
• Maintain version-controlled infrastructure configurations.
• Improve deployment consistency and simplify environment provisioning.

5. Monitoring, Logging & Troubleshooting

• Configure application and infrastructure monitoring using AWS CloudWatch and related tools.
• Monitor server health, CPU and memory utilization, application logs, and service availability.
• Configure alerts, dashboards, and health checks for critical systems.
• Investigate production incidents, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions.
• Maintain incident documentation and implement preventive measures.
• Support backup, disaster recovery, and business continuity procedures.

6. Cloud Security & Access Management

• Implement AWS security best practices and least-privilege access controls.
• Manage IAM users, roles, policies, and permissions appropriately.
• Secure servers, databases, network access, application secrets, and credentials.
• Configure VPCs, security groups, network access controls, and other relevant security settings.
• Support vulnerability remediation, patch management, and infrastructure hardening.
• Follow secure deployment practices and applicable data protection requirements.

7. Performance & Cost Optimization

• Optimize AWS infrastructure for performance, reliability, and cost efficiency.
• Identify unused resources and unnecessary infrastructure expenditure.
• Implement appropriate scaling strategies based on application requirements.
• Optimize server configurations, resource allocation, and deployment architecture.
• Evaluate suitable AWS services based on workload requirements and business needs.

8. Collaboration & Documentation

• Work closely with frontend developers, backend developers, QA engineers, and project managers.
• Establish deployment standards and infrastructure management procedures.
• Document cloud architecture, server configurations, CI/CD workflows, and recovery procedures.
• Participate in release planning, technical discussions, and production readiness reviews.
• Recommend improvements to deployment processes and infrastructure architecture.

Required Skills & Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or diploma in Computer Science, IT, Cloud Computing, or a related field is preferred.
• Hands-on experience deploying and maintaining applications on AWS.
• Strong understanding of AWS services, particularly EC2, S3, IAM, VPC, CloudWatch, and Route 53.
• Experience managing Linux servers and command-line environments.
• Knowledge of networking concepts, DNS, HTTP/HTTPS, firewalls, and SSL/TLS.
• Experience with Git and CI/CD pipelines.
• Practical knowledge of application deployment, troubleshooting, and production support.
• Familiarity with Docker and containerized application deployment.
• Understanding of cloud security, access management, and infrastructure monitoring.
• Ability to diagnose complex technical issues and work independently.

Preferred Technical Skills

Experience with the following technologies will be an advantage:

• AWS: ECS, ECR, RDS, Lambda, CloudFront, AWS CodePipeline, and AWS CodeBuild.
• CI/CD: GitHub Actions, Jenkins, or comparable tools.
• Infrastructure as Code: Terraform, CloudFormation, or AWS CDK.
• Containers: Docker and Kubernetes.
• Scripting: Bash and Python.
• Monitoring: AWS CloudWatch, Prometheus, or Grafana.
• Web Servers: Nginx and Apache.
• Databases: MySQL, PostgreSQL, or MongoDB.
• Security: IAM, secrets management, network security, and vulnerability management.

Ideal Candidate

• Has independently deployed and maintained production applications on AWS.
• Can troubleshoot deployment failures and production issues without constant supervision.
• Understands the complete deployment lifecycle, from code integration to production release.
• Can automate repetitive tasks and build reliable CI/CD pipelines.
