This role is part of a 10-year program supporting the DOMEX Data Discovery Platform (D3P) Modernization effort, where you’ll contribute to mission-critical capabilities alongside a collaborative, innovative, and growth-oriented team.

While the majority of work is performed on-site at our customer location in Bethesda, MD, we offer a flexible schedule and occasional opportunities for remote work.

As a Platform Engineer, you’ll operate and maintain the organization’s Kubernetes-based application platform and shared runtime services, including Elastic and Redis by performing platform configuration, monitoring, troubleshooting, security hardening, capacity management, version upgrades, and automation to provide reliable, secure, and scalable platform services. You’ll also support the implementation of automation, continuous integration and delivery, and DevOps best practices across cross-functional engineer teams. In this fast-paced environment, you’ll collaborate closely with systems engineering, architecture, development, security, operations, and integration teams.

You will work with a multidisciplinary group of developers, integrators, and system administrators to:

  • Deploy, troubleshoot, monitor, and maintain the platform for a production big-data pipeline built on Kubernetes, Elasticsearch, and Kafka .

  • Administer and maintain Linux-based applications, including installation, configuration, patching, upgrades, performance monitoring, troubleshooting, and system hardening.

  • Integrate with the underlying physical and virtual infrastructure, ensuring system availability, reliability, security, and performance.

  • Design and support scalable, redundant application infrastructure across physical and virtual environments.

  • Contribute technical input to engineering documentation, diagrams, and models.

  • Participate in Agile release planning, scrums, design sessions, bug triage, and related team activities.

To be successful in this role you need the following (required qualifications):

You’re enthusiastic, collaborative, and comfortable working with teammates across a range of technical backgrounds. You also meet the following qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Sciences, Systems Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience) with 4+ years of relevant experience; 2+ years with a Master’s
  • Active TS/SCI clearance and ability to obtain/maintain a TS/SCI with CI Polygraph
  • Possess at least one DoD 8140.03-M IAT Level II or higher certification, e.g., CySA+, Security+CE, etc.
  • Ability to obtain Privileged User Account (PUA) certification per DoD 8140 policy
  • Hands-on experience with Kubernetes administration and operations
  • Helm or comparable Kubernetes package/configuration-management tools
  • Troubleshooting pod failures, networking issues, image pulls, scheduling constraints, and application connectivity
  • Experience with Linux command-line administration and troubleshooting, including processes, filesystems, networking, permissions, logs, certificates, and system resource analysis
  • Experience supporting or administering at least one shared data or application platform service, such as Elastic, Redis, message queues, API gateways, or similar distributed services
  • Familiarity with infrastructure and platform automation tools, such as Terraform, Ansible, Helm, Bash, Python, or equivalent
  • Working knowledge of platform security practices
  • Experience with monitoring and observability tools and practices
  • Ability to create and maintain clear technical documentation
  • Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and communication skills

You will wow us even more if you have some of these skills:

  • Knowledge of Agile methodologies
  • Development experience (Bash, PowerShell, SALT, Python, Groovy, Java, etc.)
  • Familiarity with:
    • Kafka or other messaging systems
    • GPU-based Kubernetes
    • SALT for deployment automation
    • Helm/Helmfile
