An exciting opportunity has become available at James Price’s Garage Ltd, an award-winning, family-run garage in Walsall.

We are looking for an experienced Diagnostic Technician to join our busy and friendly workshop. This is a key role within our team, and we are looking for someone who is confident diagnosing vehicle faults, using modern diagnostic equipment and carrying out accurate fault-finding.

The successful candidate will have strong diagnostic experience and be able to investigate faults logically and efficiently across a range of vehicles.

The Role

You will be responsible for:

• Carrying out vehicle diagnostics and systematic fault-finding
• Using diagnostic equipment to identify electrical and mechanical faults
• Investigating complex and intermittent vehicle faults
• Carrying out diagnostic testing and providing accurate findings
• Identifying the root cause of faults rather than simply replacing parts
• Working on petrol, diesel, hybrid and electric vehicles
• Carrying out mechanical repairs when required
• Using technical information and wiring diagrams where necessary
• Communicating findings clearly with the Service Advisors and workshop team
• Ensuring all work is completed to a high standard
• Keeping accurate records of diagnostic work carried out
• Working independently as well as supporting the wider workshop team

Requirements

✅ Minimum 5 years' workshop/diagnostic experience
✅ Strong experience in vehicle diagnostics and fault-finding
✅ Confident using professional diagnostic equipment
✅ Good understanding of vehicle electrical and electronic systems
✅ Able to diagnose faults logically and accurately
✅ Experience with modern vehicles and complex diagnostic systems
✅ Mechanical knowledge and repair experience
✅ Able to work independently and as part of a team
✅ Good attention to detail and pride in quality workmanship
✅ Own general tools required
✅ Full UK driving licence essential
✅ Reliable, organised and professional approach to work

Desirable Experience

Experience with any of the following would be advantageous:

• Advanced vehicle diagnostics
• Electrical fault-finding
• Wiring diagrams
• CAN bus systems
• DPF and emissions-related faults
• AdBlue systems
• Hybrid and electric vehicles
• Manufacturer-specific diagnostic systems
• Complex/intermittent fault diagnosis
• Oscilloscope or advanced diagnostic testing

Working Hours

Monday – Friday: 8:30am – 5:30pm

Overtime: Occasional, when required

Experience

• Vehicle Diagnostics: 5 years at least
• Vehicle Technician/Mechanic: 5 years minimum

Licence/Certification

• Full UK Driving Licence – Required
• Level 3 Light Vehicle Maintenance – Required

Work Authorisation

• United Kingdom – Required
