Diagnostic Technician – Roles & Responsibilities

Reports To: Service Manager / Workshop Manager / Technical Head

Key Responsibilities

• Vehicle Diagnosis
• Diagnose complex mechanical, electrical and electronic vehicle complaints.
• Identify the root cause of customer complaints using systematic diagnostic procedures.
• Perform detailed vehicle inspections based on the Job Card.
• Conduct road tests where required to confirm the concern.
• Diagnostic Scanner & Equipment
• Operate manufacturer-approved diagnostic scan tools and workshop equipment.
• Read, interpret and clear Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs).
• Analyse live data, sensor values and system parameters.
• Perform ECU/system diagnosis and programming where authorized.
• Maintain and properly handle diagnostic tools and equipment.
• Electrical & Electronic Systems
• Diagnose faults in ECU, sensors, actuators, wiring and communication systems.
• Troubleshoot CAN communication and electrical circuit-related issues.
• Diagnose problems related to ABS, airbags, BCM, instrument cluster, infotainment and other electronic systems.
• Perform battery, charging and starting-system diagnosis.
• Advanced Fault Finding
• Handle difficult and repeat-repair cases.
• Investigate intermittent electrical and electronic faults.
• Identify root causes instead of replacing components unnecessarily.
• Support technicians in resolving technically complex repair jobs.
• Tata Motors Technical Standards
• Follow Tata Motors technical manuals, diagnostic procedures and repair guidelines.
• Follow manufacturer-recommended troubleshooting flowcharts.
• Keep updated on new vehicle technologies, technical circulars and service campaigns.
• Maintain required technical standards for ICE, EV and hybrid-related systems, where applicable.
• Technical Support to Workshop
• Provide technical support to Service Advisors and Technicians.
• Guide technicians during complex diagnosis and repairs.
• Assist in identifying the correct repair procedure and required parts.
• Escalate unresolved technical issues to the Technical/Workshop Manager.
• Warranty & Technical Documentation
• Support warranty diagnosis and technical documentation.
• Record diagnostic findings accurately in the Job Card/DMS.
• Document DTCs, test results, root cause and corrective action.
• Support technical reports for repeat complaints and major repairs.
• Quality Control
• Verify that the root cause has been properly rectified.
• Conduct post-repair diagnosis and system checks.
• Ensure DTCs are cleared only after the underlying fault is rectified.
• Conduct final testing/road testing where required.
• Customer Complaint Support
• Understand technical complaints communicated through the Service Advisor.
• Assist in explaining technical findings in simple terms.
• Support resolution of customer complaints and repeat visits.

Pay: ₹25,000.00 - ₹50,000.00 per month
