Diesel Mechanic

Duties/Responsibilities

· Responsible for the maintenance of vehicles

· Repair of diesel-powered vehicles

· Running diagnostic tests on vehicles to find faults

· Repair and maintenance of plant and heavy duty vehicles

· Analysing diagnostic test results

· Repairing or replacing engine, steering, transmission, braking or lighting system components

· Checking vehicle lighting systems

· Adhering to an inspection procedure checklist

· Maintaining a parts inventory

· Test driving vehicles to gauge performance

· Maintaining detailed records of the vehicles they have serviced

Qualifications/Skills

· Diesel mechanic trade certificate

· Minimum of 4 years of experience in plant and heavy vehicle maintenance

· Possess excellent knowledge of mechanics and diesel engines

· Basic welding skills

· Able to work in noisy environments

· Outstanding knowledge of auto components and machinery

· Be physically fit for heavy work
