Your expertise will play a critical role in keeping our fleet road-ready and ensuring the safe transportation of the world's most precious cargo—our children.

  • Troubleshoot and repair diesel and gasoline engines, transmissions, electrical systems, HVAC systems, suspension components, steering systems, and air brake systems.
  • Utilize diagnostic software, scan tools, and OEM service information to identify and resolve mechanical and electrical issues.
  • Conduct state inspections and safety inspections as required.
  • Repair and maintain wheelchair lifts, crossing gates, warning light systems, camera systems, and other school bus-specific equipment.
  • Respond to vehicle breakdowns and emergency roadside service calls when necessary.
  • Accurately document inspections, repairs, parts usage, and maintenance activities in fleet maintenance software and service records.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment while following all OSHA, DOT, state, and company safety regulations.
  • Collaborate with drivers, transportation staff, and management to address vehicle concerns and ensure maximum fleet availability.

Qualifications & Skills

  • High school diploma or GED required; technical or vocational training in diesel technology preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience repairing and maintaining diesel-powered vehicles; school bus or commercial fleet experience preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of diesel and gasoline engines, air brake systems, electrical systems, HVAC systems, and vehicle diagnostics.
  • Experience using diagnostic equipment, computerized maintenance systems, and OEM repair resources.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, wiring diagrams, and service bulletins.
  • Familiarity with DOT, state inspection, and school bus safety regulations.
  • Welding and fabrication experience is a plus.
  • Valid driver's license required; CDL with Passenger (P) and School Bus (S) endorsements preferred or willingness to obtain.
  • Ability to safely lift up to 50 pounds and perform physical tasks including bending, kneeling, climbing, and working in varying weather conditions.
  • Strong problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills.
