What they need
Keep Our Fleet Ready. Keep Our Passengers Moving.
Pacific Crest Bus Lines is hiring a Diesel Technician / Mechanic to maintain and repair our fleet of motorcoaches, transit buses, and shuttle vehicles.
We’re looking for someone who takes pride in accurate diagnostics, dependable repairs, and catching small problems before they become roadside failures. Your work will directly support safe, reliable transportation for passengers traveling to work, medical appointments, family visits, and destinations throughout the communities we serve.
Experience with heavy trucks, dealerships, transit fleets, or comparable diesel equipment is welcome. Previous bus experience is helpful, but not required.
What You’ll Do
- Diagnose and repair diesel engines and related systems, including cooling, fuel, lubrication, intake, exhaust, and emissions aftertreatment.
- Troubleshoot electrical and electronic problems using diagnostic software, wiring diagrams, multimeters, and manufacturer service information.
- Service and repair automatic transmissions, drivelines, steering, suspension, wheel ends, and air brake systems.
- Diagnose and repair heating and air conditioning systems, including passenger compartment climate control.
- Perform preventive maintenance, safety inspections, fluid and filter changes, lubrication, and other scheduled services.
- Identify developing failures, leaks, abnormal wear, and recurring defects; communicate findings and recommended repairs.
- Maintain and repair bus-specific equipment, including passenger doors, wheelchair lifts, lighting, and related accessories, as trained and assigned.
- Verify repairs through operational checks and road tests when properly licensed and authorized.
- Document diagnostic findings, repairs completed, parts used, and follow-up needs in the maintenance system.
- Coordinate with the shop and operations teams to prioritize repairs and return vehicles to service safely.
- Assist with occasional roadside diagnostics, emergency repairs, and on-call response.
- Maintain a clean, organized work area and follow safe procedures when using tools, lifts, jacks, and other shop equipment.
What We’re Looking For
- Practical experience maintaining and repairing diesel-powered buses, heavy trucks, or comparable commercial vehicles.
- Strong troubleshooting skills and the ability to identify the cause of a problem before recommending parts.
- Working knowledge of diesel engines, air brakes, electrical systems, cooling systems, steering, and suspension.
- Ability to read and follow service manuals, wiring diagrams, diagnostic procedures, and technical instructions.
- Ability to work independently within your skill level and collaborate with other technicians on more involved repairs.
- Reliable attendance, clear communication, and consistent follow-through.
- A commitment to safe workmanship, accurate documentation, and repair quality.
- Availability for occasional on-call assignments and overtime.
- Ability to perform the essential physical duties of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation, including standing, bending, kneeling, and working around and beneath commercial vehicles.
Helpful Experience and Qualifications
- Experience with Cummins engines, Allison transmissions, and diesel emissions systems, including DPF, SCR, and DEF components.
- Familiarity with Cummins INSITE or other manufacturer diagnostic software.
- Experience with Prevost, Volvo, Temsa, Freightliner, Ford, or similar commercial vehicles.
- Commercial vehicle inspection and air brake experience.
- Automotive or heavy-duty HVAC training and relevant certifications.
- CDL with appropriate endorsements, or interest in obtaining one.
- Welding, fabrication, or wheelchair lift troubleshooting experience.
You do not need experience with every system listed to apply. Tell us what you do well, what equipment you’ve worked on, and where you want to build your skills.
Schedule and Availability
This is a full-time position. Occasional on-call work and overtime are required to support fleet operations, respond to breakdowns, and complete time-sensitive repairs. Depending on operational needs, this may include evenings, weekends, or holidays.
