What they need
Dietary Manager – Personal Care
Loyalhanna Senior Suites | Latrobe, PA
Great meals matter. Great leadership matters even more.
At Loyalhanna Senior Suites, dining is more than getting three meals out of the kitchen each day. For our residents, meals are something to look forward to. They are a chance to socialize, celebrate, enjoy familiar favorites, and feel at home.
We are looking for a Dietary Manager who wants to take ownership of the department and create a dining program our residents and staff can be proud of.
If you enjoy leading a team, improving food quality, trying new ideas, staying organized, and getting to know the people you serve, this may be the right opportunity for you.
What Makes This Position Different
We are not looking for someone to simply maintain the status quo.
We want a Dietary Manager who will bring ideas to the table and help make dining one of the highlights of living at Loyalhanna Senior Suites.
That could mean resident-requested meals, seasonal menus, special events, themed dinners, holiday traditions, improved presentation, or simply making a resident's favorite meal the way they remember it.
You will have the opportunity to lead the department, develop your team, improve processes, and make the dining program your own while maintaining the high standards expected in a Pennsylvania Personal Care Home.
Responsibilities
The Dietary Manager is responsible for the overall operation of the dietary department, including:
- Lead, supervise, schedule, train, and support dietary staff.
- Oversee daily meal preparation and dining services.
- Maintain consistent standards for food quality, taste, temperature, appearance, and portioning.
- Plan and coordinate menus in accordance with resident needs and preferences.
- Work with residents and staff to identify food preferences and opportunities to improve the dining experience.
- Coordinate special meals, holidays, resident events, and other dining programs.
- Order food, supplies, and equipment while appropriately managing inventory and controlling waste.
- Monitor staffing and department expenses.
- Maintain proper food storage, labeling, dating, rotation, and sanitation practices.
- Ensure the kitchen, food preparation areas, equipment, storage areas, and dining areas are clean, organized, and maintained appropriately.
- Maintain required dietary documentation, records, logs, and department systems.
- Follow applicable food safety and sanitation requirements.
- Ensure dietary operations comply with applicable Pennsylvania Personal Care Home requirements, facility policies, and other applicable laws and regulations.
- Participate in inspections, surveys, quality improvement activities, and corrective action when necessary.
- Work collaboratively with the Administrator, Wellness Department, and other department leaders.
- Address resident and family concerns related to dining services promptly and professionally.
- Assist with food preparation and meal service when necessary.
- Develop and maintain a positive, accountable, resident-focused dietary team.
What We Are Looking For
The ideal candidate will have:
- Previous food service leadership or supervisory experience.
- Experience in senior living, personal care, assisted living, healthcare, institutional food service, hospitality, or a similar setting preferred.
- Knowledge of food safety and sanitation practices.
- Experience with staff scheduling, inventory, food ordering, and department organization.
- Strong leadership and communication skills.
- The ability to train employees, establish expectations, and hold team members accountable.
- The ability to work collaboratively with residents, families, staff, and leadership.
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
- A genuine interest in providing an excellent dining experience for older adults.
- ServSafe certification or other applicable food safety certification preferred, or willingness to obtain required certification.
The Person We Want
We want someone who notices when the plate does not look right before it ever reaches a resident.
Someone who knows that running a good kitchen requires both good food and good systems.
Someone who can lead a team without being afraid to jump in and help.
Someone who listens when residents say what they like, what they miss, and what they would love to see on the menu.
Most importantly, we want someone who understands that food is part of care.
