What they need

Likemind is proud to partner once again with BRANZ to recruit an exceptional Digital Editor.

This is a unique opportunity to shape how BRANZ’s research, insights, and expertise connect with audiences across Aotearoa. The successful candidate will lead the editorial direction and digital publishing of BRANZ's content. They will bring complex technical knowledge to life through compelling, accessible stories and practical content that audiences trust and value.

The ideal candidate will have experience leading the digital publishing function for an online publication, news site, magazine, membership publication or specialist industry publisher. You may have worked as a Digital Editor, Managing Editor, Head of Content or similar role, with responsibility for editorial planning, commissioning, publishing and audience growth.

This role will also play a key part in growing the commercial value of BRANZ’s digital platforms, ensuring content supports sustainable revenue opportunities through audience growth and engagement.

About BRANZ
BRANZ is driven by a clear purpose: creating better, safer, more sustainable buildings for New Zealand.
It’s team of scientists, engineers and technical experts work at the cutting edge—testing buildings against fire, earthquakes, and extreme weather, and generating insights that shape the future of construction.
This role plays a crucial part in ensuring that work is seen, understood, and valued.

About the Role
Reporting to the Content and Digital Engagement Team Leader, the Digital Editor is responsible for leading the editing, planning, creation, publishing content strategy and optimisation of BRANZ’s digital content.

This is a hands-on leadership role (without direct reports), requiring strong collaboration, editorial judgement, and a high level of ownership.

Key responsibilities include:

Digital Editorial Planning, Commissioning & Publishing

  • Planning, commissioning and editing content from internal experts and external contributors
  • Defining and delivering a digital-first content strategy aligned with audience needs and BRANZ goals
  • Leading content planning and pipeline management across digital platforms, with a focus on high-value, high-impact content
  • Establishing and maintaining content governance, standards, and workflows that support scalable, sustainable growth

Content Design & Delivery

  • Translating complex technical research into clear, engaging, and accessible content that drives audience engagement
  • Applying digital publishing and content design best practice to improve discoverability, reader engagement and content performance
  • Driving continuous improvement through content audits, insights, and best practice, including identifying opportunities for premium or gated content

Audience Growth & Performance

  • Growing audience reach, engagement, and content effectiveness across priority segments (e.g. builders and homeowners)
  • Optimising content using SEO, analytics, and performance insights
  • Supporting commercial outcomes by contributing to monetisation approaches such as subscriptions, gated content, and advertising

Collaboration & Influence

  • Working cross-functionally with researchers, product owners, marketers, designers, and subject matter experts
  • Building strong relationships and guiding stakeholders to deliver high-quality, user-centred content
  • Championing a customer-first, data-informed and commercially aware approach to content

What we are looking for
The ideal candidate will be a strategic and hands-on content professional, comfortable operating from high-level planning, through to execution with a strong digital background. This role is likely to suit someone who has led content for an online publication, specialist news site, digital magazine or membership-based content platform. You will understand how to build and retain audiences through high-quality editorial content, while balancing audience needs, commercial objectives and organisational priorities.

You will bring:

  • Proven experience in digital content editing, strategy, planning, and publishing
  • Exceptional writing and editing skills with a strong attention to detail
  • The ability to translate complex or technical information into plain English
  • A solid understanding of SEO, analytics, and performance optimisation
  • Experience developing content that supports audience growth and retention, particularly across defined target segments
  • An understanding of how content contributes to commercial outcomes
  • Experience with CMS platforms (e.g. Silverstripe or similar)
