3D Scan / Point Cloud Registration & 5D Operation Engineer

IAAN, INC. (http://www.iaan.co.kr) provides engineering services for semiconductor FABs and industrial facilities using 3D scanning, Point Cloud, BIM, 5D, and Digital Twin technologies.

As we continue to expand our business, we are seeking an engineer who can support 3D Laser Scanning and Point Cloud Registration projects, while also working as part of our 5D Operation Team during periods when scanning projects are not active.

Position

3D Scan / Point Cloud Registration & 5D Operation Engineer

Key Responsibilities

3D Scan / Point Cloud

• Perform 3D Laser Scanning at semiconductor FABs and industrial facilities
• Plan scan locations, coverage, and field scanning routes
• Perform Point Cloud Registration and alignment of multiple scan datasets
• Review scan accuracy, registration quality, and overall Point Cloud data quality
• Perform registration using coordinate systems and control points
• Clean, organize, and optimize Point Cloud datasets
• Compare Point Cloud data against existing BIM / CAD models
• Verify actual field conditions and As-Built information
• Support Reverse Engineering and BIM Modeling using Point Cloud data
• Prepare scan results and registration quality reports
• Organize and manage scan data and project files

5D Operation

3D Scan projects are performed on a project-based and intermittent basis.

When there is no active 3D Scan project, this position will work as a member of the 5D Operation Team.

Responsibilities may include:

• Operation and management of semiconductor FAB 5D / BIM models
• Comparison of field installation conditions against 3D models
• Support for equipment and piping model updates
• Incorporation of field changes and As-Built information into project models
• BIM and field data quality review
• Identification and review of design, construction, and coordination issues
• Support for 5D / Virtual FAB operations
• Management of project engineering data and documentation

Qualifications

• Interest or experience in 3D Laser Scanning and Point Cloud technology
• Basic understanding of CAD / BIM software such as AutoCAD, Revit, and Navisworks
• Understanding of 3D spatial concepts and coordinate systems
• Ability to perform both field-based work and computer-based data processing
• Willingness to support both 3D Scan projects and 5D Operation activities
• Strong willingness to learn new scanning equipment and software
• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience operating the Trimble X7 3D Laser Scanner is highly preferred
• Experience with Trimble Perspective
• Experience with Trimble, FARO, Leica, or other 3D Laser Scanning systems
• Experience with Point Cloud Registration software such as FARO SCENE, Leica Cyclone, or Register 360
• Experience with Autodesk ReCap
• Working knowledge of Revit, AutoCAD, and Navisworks
• Experience with Point Cloud-based As-Built Modeling or Reverse Engineering
• Experience in semiconductor FAB, MEP, piping, equipment, or industrial facility projects
• Experience with BIM Coordination and Clash Detection
• Surveying or field measurement experience
• Experience processing large Point Cloud datasets
• Ability to communicate effectively in English in a field environment

Candidates without direct 3D scanning experience may also be considered if they have a strong CAD / BIM / 3D background and are willing to learn.

About This Position

This is not a dedicated 3D scanning-only position.

Because 3D Scan projects are performed intermittently based on project schedules and client requirements, the engineer will be assigned to 3D Scan / Point Cloud Registration projects when scanning work is active.

During periods without active scanning projects, the engineer will work as part of the 5D Operation Team, supporting BIM, field coordination, and Digital Engineering activities.

This position provides an opportunity to gain experience across the complete Digital Engineering workflow:

3D Scan → Registration → Point Cloud → BIM → 5D Operation → As-Built / Digital Twin

We are looking for candidates who are interested not only in operating scanning equipment, but also in transforming real-world field conditions into accurate digital data and integrating that information into BIM and Digital Twin environments.

Work Location

Austin / Taylor, Texas and project sites

Travel to project sites may be required depending on project schedules.
