What they need

Job Overview

As part of Concordia Wellness Projects Inc. (CWPI), a non-profit organization dedicated to enhancing the well-being of seniors in our community, Bergen Gardens offers a warm, supportive environment where residents and team members feel a true sense of family and belonging. Our state-of-the-art retirement residence includes 149 Assisted Living suites as well as 48 private health-care suites within four intimate Memory Care Cottages, each home to 12 residents. Our specially trained team provides compassionate, person-directed care. At Bergen Gardens, every team member plays an important role in the residents’ physical, mental and spiritual wellness—from providing care, preparing and serving home-cooked meals, cleaning suites, supporting laundry services, maintaining our building and grounds, leading engaging activities and opportunities to socialize, welcoming residents and visitors, or assisting with office operations, our team works together to create a safe, comfortable and fulfilling place to call home. We value people who take the time to know our residents, build genuine relationships, and take pride in making a difference. In return, we offer competitive wages, a collaborative workplace, and the opportunity to do meaningful work every day.

We are looking for a Dining Assistant (days and casuals) to join us in the dining room. You will be serving meals to our residents, giving them the options for the day, taking there orders, serving them food and drinks, setting and resetting the dinning room for services and most importantly forming relationships with our residents.

Duties

  • Provide a warm, welcoming, respectful, and person-directed dining experience to elders in Assisted Living and Memory Care.
  • Provide welcoming, respectful and timely person-directed dining service that supports elders’ choices, preferences and independence.
  • Review menus and dietary requirements; prepare and stock assigned dining areas, place settings and service stations.
  • Accurately enter meal orders into the POS system and serve correct meals, beverages and desserts promptly.
  • Follow allergy, intolerance, special-diet and texture-modified meal procedures; seek clarification when requirements are unclear and maintain food safety, temperature, portion and quality standards.
  • Monitor dining areas, respond to elders’ requests, clear dishes and maintain clean, sanitary and safe dining, café and service areas.
  • Prepare beverages, assist with plating and presentation, and support Store service, inventory and cleanliness when assigned.
  • Assist with special events, celebrations and dining-related activities.
  • Receive, store and organize food and supplies; monitor stock and use resources efficiently to minimize waste and control costs.
  • Complete opening and closing duties, cleaning, restocking, required documentation and POS section checkout before the end of each shift.
  • Work collaboratively with dining and kitchen teams; promptly report dietary and service concerns, elder feedback, shortages, delivery issues, maintenance needs and outstanding follow-up to the appropriate supervisor or Maintenance.
  • Listen to and communicate elder feedback regarding meals and dining services to the Dining Supervisor and Director of Food Services.
  • Engage with the residents building relationships and connections.
  • May be required to perform other duties and functions related to this job description not exceeding above stated skills and capabilities.

  • Must be 18 years of age or older and hold, or willing to obtain a Manitoba Safe Choices Certificate
  • Experience in Serving/dining services is considered an asset
  • Experience in Senior Care is considered an asset
  • Empathy and commitment to quality, person-directed care and service for elders.

  • Ability to adapt quickly to change and work independently, with a commitment to ongoing learning and development.
