Direct Support Professional

Job Summary

Duties

• Assist residents with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs), including bathing, dressing, grooming, and mobility support using equipment such as Hoyer lifts when necessary
• Monitor residents’ health by taking vital signs, observing patient conditions, and reporting changes promptly to healthcare teams
• Support medication administration following HIPAA guidelines and care plans developed by healthcare professionals
• Prepare nutritious meals and snacks in accordance with dietary restrictions and preferences, ensuring cleanliness and safety in the kitchen area
• Maintain a clean and safe environment by performing regular cleaning duties in resident rooms, common areas, and activity spaces
• Engage residents in social activities, recreational programs, and community outings to promote mental stimulation and socialization
• Document care activities accurately in compliance with HIPAA regulations and organizational policies

Skills

• Proven experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities, autism, dementia (including Alzheimer’s disease), or in senior care settings such as assisted living or nursing homes
• Knowledge of first aid, CPR certification, and emergency response procedures to ensure safety at all times
• Strong patient observation skills to monitor changes in behavior or health status effectively
• Ability to perform heavy lifting safely when assisting residents with mobility or transfers using equipment like Hoyer lifts
• Familiarity with medication administration protocols and maintaining detailed care plans
• Experience with home & community care environments, home health services, hospice care or long-term care settings is highly desirable
• Excellent communication skills to collaborate effectively with team members, residents, families, and healthcare providers
