Direct Support Professional

Job Summary

Responsibilities

• Assist residents with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs), including personal hygiene, grooming, dressing, and mobility support
• Monitor patient health by taking vital signs, observing for changes, and reporting findings accurately
• Support medication administration following HIPAA guidelines and care plans
• Prepare nutritious meals and assist with meal consumption to promote health and well-being
• Operate patient transfer methods such as Hoyer lifts and manual handling techniques to ensure safe mobility
• Maintain cleanliness of the living environment through regular cleaning and sanitation tasks
• Document resident progress, care activities, and observations clearly in accordance with policies
• Support residents during outings or community activities, providing personal transportation assistance when needed
• Assist with specialized care such as Alzheimer’s, dementia, memory care, or neurodevelopmental disorders as required
• Follow safety protocols including first aid, CPR certification, and emergency response procedures

Requirements

• Prior experience working in group homes, assisted living facilities, nursing homes, or home health settings is highly preferred
• Knowledge of patient observation techniques and experience working with individuals with disabilities or neurodevelopmental disorders is essential
• Ability to perform heavy lifting and manual handling safely while adhering to proper patient transfer methods
• Strong communication skills to effectively interact with residents, families, and team members
• Certification in first aid and CPR is required; ongoing training in medication administration and HIPAA compliance is expected
• Experience working with individuals with autism, dementia, or other cognitive impairments is a plus
• Demonstrated ability to follow care plans meticulously while providing compassionate support
