Direct Support Professional

JOB OVERVIEW:

A Direct Support Professional (DSP) provides person-centered support and assistance to individuals with developmental disabilities in accordance with Ohio Department of Developmental Disabilities (DODD) regulations. DSPs help individuals live as independently as possible while ensuring health, safety, dignity, and community inclusion.

DSPs support individuals in their homes and communities by assisting with daily living activities, skill development, transportation, and implementation of Individual Service Plans (ISP).

Key Responsibilities:

****Personal Care & Daily Living Support

• Assist individuals with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs), including:
• Bathing, grooming, and hygiene
• Dressing and personal appearance
• Toileting and mobility assistance
• Meal preparation and feeding support if needed
• Maintain a clean, safe, and organized living environment.

Health and Safety:

Monitor health conditions and report changes immediately.

Administer medications according to delegated nursing guidelines (if certified).

• Follow behavior support plans and safety protocols.
• Ensure compliance with DODD health and welfare standards.
• Respond appropriately to emergencies and incidents.

Community Integration:

Support individuals in community activities such as:

• Shopping
• Recreation
• Appointments
• Employment or volunteer opportunities
• Encourage independence and social interaction.

Documentation & Compliance:

• Complete daily service documentation accurately and timely.
• Record progress notes aligned with ISP goals.
• Report incidents following MUI (Major Unusual Incident) procedures.
• Maintain confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA and DODD rules.

Skill Development:

• Teach and reinforce independent living skills including:
• Money management basics
• Household tasks
• Communication and social skills
• Decision-making and self-advocacy

Required Qualifications:

• High school diploma or GED.
• Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
• Ability to pass background checks (BCI/FBI).
• CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).
• Completion of required DODD training and orientation.
• Ability to lift, transfer, and assist individuals as needed.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Previous experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities.
• Medication Administration Certification.
• Experience with behavior supports or autism services.

Required Work Expreinece:

• Residential homes, supported living settings, or community-based environments.
• May include evenings, weekends, holidays, and overnight shifts.

Job Types: Full-time, Part-time

Pay: From $16.00 per hour
