Direct Support Professional (DSP) – DDS Individual

Pay: $22.50 per hour
Schedule: Approximately 30 hours per week
Additional Compensation: Paid driving time when transporting/supporting the individual as applicable

Butler Rescue Hands Inc. is seeking a reliable, compassionate, and experienced Direct Support Professional (DSP) to provide services to a DDS individual in the Bridgeport, CT area.

This position is approximately 30 hours per week and involves providing individualized support in the home and community. We are looking for someone who understands the importance of promoting independence, choice, dignity, safety, and community participation.

Responsibilities:

• Provide direct support according to the individual’s DDS Individual Plan and agency care/support plan
• Assist with daily living and independent living skills
• Support community participation, activities, appointments, shopping, and other approved outings
• Encourage independence rather than completing tasks for the individual when they are capable of participating
• Provide appropriate prompting, redirection, and behavioral support when needed
• Assist with personal care as required by the individual’s plan
• Transport the individual safely in the community as assigned
• Maintain accurate documentation and complete required service notes for every shift
• Document goals, progress, activities, concerns, incidents, and changes in condition as required
• Follow DDS incident reporting, abuse/neglect reporting, confidentiality, and individual-rights requirements
• Follow all Butler Rescue Hands Inc. policies and DDS requirements
• Communicate professionally with the individual, family/guardian, agency management, case management team, and other authorized members of the support team

Required Qualifications:

• Must be at least 21 years old
• High school diploma or GED
• Previous experience working with individuals with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities strongly preferred
• DDS/IHS/IDS or other developmental-disability experience preferred
• Current CPR/First Aid certification or ability to obtain required certification before independent assignment
• Must successfully complete all Butler Rescue Hands Inc. and Connecticut DDS-required orientation and training applicable to the assignment
• Must complete required abuse/neglect, mandated reporting, individual rights, emergency/safety, infection-control and other required agency/DDS training
• Medication Administration Certification must be current when medication administration is part of the assigned individual’s services
• Must successfully complete required criminal background and registry checks
• Valid driver’s license
• Reliable, registered, and insured vehicle
• Acceptable driving record
• Ability and willingness to safely transport the individual when required
• Must maintain all required credentials and training throughout employment
• Must be dependable, punctual, professional, and able to maintain appropriate boundaries
• Must be comfortable working independently in the individual’s home and in community settings
• Must be able to follow written support plans and accurately complete required documentation

Schedule:

Approximately 30 hours per week. Applicants must have dependable availability and be able to maintain a consistent schedule.

Compensation:

$22.50 per hour, plus applicable compensation when driving/transporting the individual.

Experience:

DDS, IHS, IDS, DSP, Autism, developmental disabilities, behavioral support, or related direct-care experience is strongly preferred.
