Position Summary

At Live You AND Me, Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) play a vital role in supporting people with intellectual and developmental disabilities to live meaningful, self-directed lives. DSPs provide compassionate, person-centered support that promotes independence, choice, community inclusion, dignity, and overall well-being.

Our DSPs build positive relationships based on respect, trust, and empowerment, while helping each person pursue their goals, develop skills, maintain health and safety, and actively participate in their communities.

Essential Responsibilities - Person-Centered Support

• Provide individualized support based on each person's unique strengths, preferences, goals, and needs.
• Promote self-determination by encouraging choice, decision-making, and personal independence.
• Support individuals in achieving personal, social, educational, vocational, and recreational goals.
• Foster an environment of dignity, respect, inclusion, and belonging.

Community Inclusion

• Encourage and support participation in community activities, events, and relationships.
• Assist individuals in developing and maintaining meaningful connections with family members, friends, and community members.
• Promote opportunities for community engagement and personal growth.

Daily Living Support

• Assist with activities of daily living as needed, including meal preparation, household tasks, personal care, transportation, and wellness routines.
• Encourage skill development and independence whenever possible rather than completing tasks for the individual.
• Support healthy lifestyle choices and personal wellness goals.

Health and Safety

• Follow individual support plans and agency policies to ensure health, safety, and well-being.
• Administer or assist with medications as authorized and trained.
• Observe, document, and report any concerns regarding health, safety, behavior, or environmental risks.
• Respond appropriately to emergencies and critical situations.

Documentation and Communication

• Complete accurate, timely, and documentation.
• Communicate professionally with individuals supported, families, team members, healthcare providers, and community partners.
• Participate in team meetings, trainings, and ongoing professional development.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.
• Ability to pass required background screenings.
• Strong interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries.
• Commitment to person-centered values and supporting people with dignity and respect.
