Direct Support Professional

Job Overview

A Defined Way Healthcare is seeking a compassionate, dependable, and dedicated Direct Support Professional (DSP) to provide personalized care and assistance to individuals with daily living needs. The ideal candidate is patient, attentive, and committed to promoting each client's safety, dignity, independence, and overall well-being.

This position is PRN (as needed) with a permanent Sunday shift. Candidates should be dependable, comfortable working Sundays, and willing to provide additional coverage as needed.

No previous DSP experience? We are willing to train the right candidate! Applicants must meet the required certification, transportation, and background screening requirements.

Responsibilities

• Assist clients with activities of daily living, including personal hygiene, dressing, grooming, toileting, and mobility.
• Provide companionship, supervision, and emotional support while promoting independence and dignity.
• Communicate with clients using appropriate methods, including basic sign language when needed.
• Assist with meal preparation, feeding when necessary, and following individual dietary instructions.
• Help maintain a clean, safe, and comfortable environment.
• Follow individualized care plans, agency policies, and applicable safety procedures.
• Observe and report changes in clients' physical condition, behavior, or overall well-being.
• Complete accurate documentation of care provided and report incidents or concerns promptly.
• Follow infection control procedures and protect client privacy and confidentiality.
• Communicate professionally with clients, families, coworkers, and supervisors.
• Perform other duties related to client care within the scope of the position.

Required Qualifications

• Current Med 1 certification.
• Current CPR and Basic Life Support (BLS) certifications, as required for the position.
• Valid driver's license.
• Reliable personal transportation.
• Current automobile insurance.
• Ability to pass the required background check.
• Dependable, patient, compassionate, and professional.
• Willingness to work a permanent Sunday shift and provide additional coverage as needed.
• Ability to follow instructions, care plans, and agency policies.

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous experience as a Direct Support Professional, caregiver, home health aide, or in a similar care setting.
• Basic sign language skills.
• Experience assisting individuals with developmental disabilities, intellectual disabilities, autism, or other specialized support needs.
• Familiarity with activities of daily living, client rights, safety procedures, and care documentation.

DSP experience is not required. Training may be provided to qualified candidates who do not have previous DSP experience. Required certifications and other hiring qualifications must still be met.
