Direct Support Professional

Job Overview

As a Direct Support Professional, you’ll provide respectful, person-centered care that helps individuals with disabilities and older adults participate in daily life. You’ll support personal care, meals, medication routines, and safe movement while following care plans and protecting each person’s rights and privacy. Work may take place in a group home, assisted living, nursing home, or home and community care setting.

Responsibilities

• Assist with activities of daily living (ADLs), personal care, meal preparation, cooking, cleaning, and personal transportation.
• Observe and monitor clients, communicate changes, and document care in line with care plans and the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
• Support medication administration, vital signs, patient transfers, manual handling, and use of a Hoyer lift when trained and authorized.
• Provide direct support and client communication for people with autism, developmental or intellectual disabilities, neurodevelopmental disorders, dementia, or Alzheimer’s disease.

Qualifications

• Required: Compassionate caregiving skills, clear communication, and respect for residents’ rights, privacy, and individual care plans.
• Preferred: Experience in direct support, patient care, home health or home care, hospice, senior care, geriatrics, memory care, dementia care, or long-term care.
• Relevant experience may include group homes, assisted living, nursing homes, and home and community care.
• First aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) knowledge is preferred; follow applicable protocols for patient observation, monitoring, and transfers.
• Ability to perform role-related physical tasks, including standing, lifting, and assisting with mobility.

Pay: $18.00 - $20.00 per hour

Expected hours: No more than 33.0 per week
