About the Position

United Care Support Services LLC is seeking a dependable, compassionate, and motivated Direct Support Professional (DSP) to provide one-on-one support to an adult male during his weekly volunteer activities at a local food pantry.

The individual is independent, motivated, and interested in giving back to his community. The DSP will provide guidance, encouragement, and appropriate support while promoting the individual's independence, confidence, and meaningful participation in the volunteer setting.

Responsibilities

The DSP will be responsible for:

• Accompanying and supporting the individual to appointments, grocery shopping and any other community engagements.
• Accompanying and supporting the individual during his volunteer activities.
• Providing guidance and direction while encouraging the individual to complete tasks independently.
• Assisting with organizing and stocking items on shelves.
• Providing support with packing, sorting, and preparing food or donated items.
• Helping the individual understand and follow instructions provided by food pantry staff.
• Encouraging independence and providing assistance only when necessary.
• Promoting positive communication and respectful interactions with staff, volunteers, and community members.
• Monitoring the individual's safety and well-being throughout the volunteer activity.
• Assisting with other appropriate tasks as assigned by the food pantry.
• Completing required service documentation accurately and in a timely manner.

• Comfortable working one-on-one with an adult with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
• Able to provide appropriate guidance while promoting independence.
• Comfortable working in a community-based environment.
• A strong communicator with positive interpersonal skills.
• Comfortable assisting with light organizing, packing, sorting, and stocking activities.
• A safe and responsible driver who consistently follows traffic laws, road signs, and posted speed limits.

Qualifications

• Previous experience as a DSP or working with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities is preferred but not required.
• Must be able to successfully complete required background checks and agency onboarding requirements.
• Must complete all required training in accordance with agency policies and applicable New Jersey DDD requirements.
• Reliable transportation is preferred.
• Valid driver's license and current automobile insurance may be required if transportation is included as part of the individual's support plan.
