Direct Support Professional - Driver

NOW HIRING: COMPANION DRIVER

The Canaan Center is hiring a dependable, compassionate Companion Driver to support our community-based Companion Program in Broward County.

This position is ideal for someone who enjoys working with adults with developmental disabilities and wants to help individuals safely access their community, participate in activities, and build greater independence.

Position Responsibilities:

• Safely pick up and drop off program participants at their homes and designated program/community locations
• Transport participants to community activities such as libraries, parks, shopping centers, volunteer sites, recreational activities, and other planned outings
• Maintain professional communication with families and The Canaan Center team
• Complete required transportation and service documentation
• Maintain participant safety and follow all program policies and procedures
• Assist participants entering and exiting the vehicle as needed
• Maintain a clean, safe, and organized transportation environment

Qualifications:

• Valid Florida Driver’s License
• Clean and acceptable driving record
• Reliable and punctual
• Must be comfortable transporting and working with individuals with developmental disabilities
• Patient, compassionate, professional, and safety-focused
• Must be able to pass required background screening
• CPR/First Aid certification preferred
• CNA, HHA, Direct Support Professional, Companion, or caregiving experience is a plus
• Experience working with individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities is strongly preferred

Schedule:
Monday–Friday, primarily morning pick-up 7:40am and afternoon drop-off hours 2:30pm, with additional Companion Program hours potentially available.

Location: Broward County, Florida

We are looking for someone who understands that transportation is more than simply providing a ride. Our Companion Driver helps participants safely access their community, develop confidence, and remain engaged in meaningful daily activities.
