What they need

JHIRING IMMEDIATELY IN CHICAGO – Start This Week!

Position Summary

JNH Home Health Services is a Chicago-based agency hiring Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) to start immediately. Through the Illinois Department of Human Services Division of Developmental Disabilities (DDD) Home-Based Support Services program, our DSPs work one-on-one with adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD), including autism, in their homes and communities across Chicago. Your role is to help each person build skills, gain independence, and live the life they choose. Our founder started JNH after navigating care for a loved one with disabilities, so supporting people with disabilities and their families with dignity and respect is at the center of everything we do. If you’re patient, dependable, and passionate about helping people grow, we want to hear from you.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

  • Provide one on one support to adults with intellectual disabilities, developmental disabilities, and autism in the home and community.
  • Follow each individual’s Personal Plan / Individual Service Plan and help them work toward their personal goals.
  • Teach and support daily living skills: cooking, cleaning, laundry, personal hygiene, money management, shopping, and using public transportation.
  • Assist with personal care as needed: bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, and mobility.
  • Support community integration: outings, recreation, volunteering, social activities, appointments, and day program or job-related activities.
  • Use positive behavior support strategies and follow any behavior support plan in place.
  • Recognize and respond calmly to sensory needs, routines, and communication differences common with autism, including use of visual schedules or communication devices.
  • Encourage choice, self-advocacy, and as much independence as possible.
  • Provide medication reminders (non-medical) and support with health and safety routines.
  • Offer respite support so family caregivers can rest and recharge.
  • Document daily progress notes, goal tracking, and hours accurately and on time.
  • Observe and report changes in health, behavior, or wellbeing to your coordinator.
  • Follow all DDD rules, agency policies, confidentiality (HIPAA), and abuse/neglect reporting requirements.

Qualifications

  • 18 years of age or older.
  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Must pass a fingerprint background check and be eligible for the Illinois Health Care Worker Registry.
  • Willingness to complete required Illinois DDD DSP training and certification (paid by JNH).
  • Reliable transportation or the ability to reach client homes and community locations across Chicago by public transit (CTA). A valid driver’s license and auto insurance are a plus.
  • Patient, calm, flexible, and respectful of each person’s dignity and choices.
  • Good communication skills and ability to follow written plans and instructions.
  • Experience as a DSP, caregiver, behavior technician (RBT), special education aide, or in a CILA or day program preferred.
  • Experience supporting adults with intellectual disabilities, autism, or challenging behaviors preferred.
  • CPR/First Aid certification a plus.
  • Bilingual in Spanish, Polish, or Cantonese a plus.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand, walk, and be active in the home and community for extended periods.
  • Ability to assist with transfers and lift up to 25 lbs when supporting the individual.
  • Ability to respond quickly to support the safety of the individual.

Job Type: Full-time, Part-time

Benefits:

  • Weekly pay with direct deposit
  • Flexible schedule (mornings, afternoons, evenings, weekends)
  • Paid sick time
  • Paid DSP training and certification support
  • Ongoing education in I/DD, autism, and positive behavior support
  • 24/7 coordinator support
  • Referral program
