NAPD is seeking Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) who take pride in doing meaningful work and providing quality support to adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
We are looking for people with the qualities that cannot simply be taught in training—responsibility, patience, compassion, dependability, good judgment, respect, and a genuine desire to help others succeed.
As a DSP, people depend on you. Your presence, attitude, attention to detail, and the quality of your work can directly impact another person's day.
What You'll Do
Direct Support Professionals provide hands-on support to adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities in a day-program setting.
Your responsibilities may include:
- Supporting individuals with daily living skills, learning opportunities, recreation, socialization, and community participation
- Encouraging independence, personal choice, communication, and skill development
- Providing personal care assistance, including bowel and bladder assistance, when needed
- Assisting individuals with mobility and other physical support needs
- Participating in community outings and program activities
- Following individual service plans, behavioral support strategies, safety procedures, and established protocols
- Observing individual progress, needs, behaviors, and participation
- Recording accurate data and completing clear, timely progress notes and other required documentation
- Maintaining a safe, clean, respectful, and supportive environment
- Communicating professionally and working cooperatively as part of a team
The Kind of Person We're Looking For
Responsible and dependable.
You understand that the individuals we serve and your coworkers are counting on you to show up, be prepared, and follow through.
Patient and compassionate.
You recognize that everyone has different abilities, needs, personalities, and ways of communicating.
Respectful.
You treat every individual with dignity and protect their privacy, choices, and individuality—including when providing personal care.
Attentive and safety-minded.
You stay engaged, notice what is happening around you, follow procedures, and understand the responsibility that comes with supporting another person.
Positive and encouraging.
You focus on what people can do and help individuals participate, learn, build confidence, and become as independent as possible.
Professional and accurate.
You can follow instructions, collect accurate data, document services, and write clear and factual progress notes.
Someone who takes pride in doing a good job.
Whether you're helping someone learn a new skill, participate in the community, complete a daily activity, receive personal care, or simply have a positive day, the quality of your work matters.
