Direct Support Professional / Personal Care Assistant

Looking for a caring individual to assist with daily cares, activities and support of an adult disabled man with mobility challenges and TBI in our Martin Rd home in Duluth. The ideal candidate must have a strong work ethic, be dependable, have the independent ability to work without supervision, good problem solving or redirecting skills, great forethought and planning, have a passion for assisting and helping others, understanding of the importance of making him laugh along with supporting his physical goals with daily physical exercise and activities and ensuring his safety and well-being at all times.

Duties Include:

Assist client in all aspects of daily living; from showering, toileting, grooming, dressing to meal preparation, daily exercising/stretching/treadmill, etc.

• Provide companionship and emotional support to client with constant interaction, communication and laughter. You are his primary person he interacts with throughout the day. You need to engage him in conversation, activities, games, and physical exercise. He loves classic rock music and to play cribbage or monopoly. His long-term memory is good, however his short-term memory can be poor.
• Perform light housekeeping duties
• Maintain daily log sheet of care/activities provided
• This is a very active position, constant interaction with client, keeping him engaged throughout your shift.
• Schedule: Currently: Tues, Wed, Friday and every other Saturday - but am open to discuss

Experience

• Previous experience in personal care or related fields is preferred, but not required

• Experience with brain injury clients a plus

• Strong communication and interpersonal skills

• Compassionate and patient demeanor - as he has good days and bad

• Ability to work well independently and responsible to work scheduled shifts

In addition to your hourly wage, with some additional online training, you would qualify for a $750 training bonus and potentially a retention bonus next summer of $1200 from the State.

Pay: $21.00 - $23.50 per hour
