Directional Driller / Locator

About the role

As a Directional Driller / Locator, you will be responsible for the safe and efficient operation of horizontal directional drilling equipment for underground utility installations.

Key responsibilities

• Operate and control horizontal directional drilling equipment safely and efficiently.
• Set up and monitor drilling operations to achieve the required drill path and project specifications.
• Use plans, drawings and site information to determine and achieve the required bore path.
• Carry out locating and monitor drilling direction, depth and progress throughout the job.
• Work closely with the drilling crew, locator and site supervisor to ensure jobs are completed accurately and efficiently.
• Communicate effectively with the crew throughout drilling operations.
• Conduct daily pre-start checks and routine inspections of drilling equipment.
• Carry out basic equipment maintenance, cleaning, lubrication and refuelling as required.
• Identify and troubleshoot operational issues and communicate any problems promptly.
• Maintain a clean, tidy and safe work environment.

About you

• Proven experience operating horizontal directional drilling equipment.
• Experience as a Directional Driller and/or Locator.
• A strong understanding of underground utility installation and drilling operations.
• The ability to accurately monitor and follow drill paths, depths and locations.
• Good practical problem-solving skills and the ability to think on your feet.
• A strong understanding of underground services and the risks associated with drilling.
• A current WTR endorsement.
• Good mechanical awareness and the ability to carry out basic equipment checks and maintenance.
• The ability to read plans, drawings and job instructions.
• A strong commitment to health and safety.
