What they need
As Director of Cultural Heritage, you will provide strategic leadership of the cultural heritage regulatory framework, including administration of the Aboriginal Cultural Heritage Act 2003 and Torres Strait Islander Cultural Heritage Act 2003, while driving effective regulatory, measurable and user-centred outcomes.
You will lead a high-performing team, provide authoritative advice to government and senior executives and build strong partnerships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, communities, government agencies and stakeholders to address complex and sensitive cultural heritage matters.
This is a rewarding opportunity to apply your leadership, judgement, facilitation capability, education and training expertise and stakeholder engagement skills to deliver meaningful outcomes for Queensland's cultural heritage and First Nations communities.
The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Partnerships (ATSIP) division partners with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, councils and stakeholders to drive meaningful progress on Closing the Gap, with a strong focus on improving education, housing and health outcomes, to provide First Nations peoples opportunities and reduce disadvantage.
We support economic development by connecting major contractors with First Nations businesses, delivering targeted local plans that build skills, create jobs and grow enterprises and contribute to Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games participation goals while also celebrating culture and history as part of the Games legacy.
ATSIP also administers Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural heritage responsibilities under the relevant Acts, leads the community and personal histories and National Redress Scheme functions and champions culture and reconciliation through inclusive, culturally appropriate and community led and education-aligned outcomes.
