I am exclusively representing an established electrical contractor making a key leadership appointment within its Mission Critical division in Houston.

The business has secured a significant pipeline of major data center projects in the region, with multiple large projects preparing to mobilise over the coming months.

They are now looking for a senior electrical construction leader to take ownership of the operation building the teams, setting the projects up correctly and developing the platform for continued growth.

This could suit an established Director / VP looking for a strong pipeline and greater ownership.

Equally, it could be an excellent step for a proven Project Executive who has spent years travelling nationally delivering major data center projects and is ready to move into divisional leadership with less than 25% travel .

The Opportunity

This is not a turnaround and it is not a division that needs to be built from scratch.

The work is already there.

You will be joining:

• A significant secured Mission Critical backlog
• Multiple major data center projects preparing to start
• An established Project Executive, PM and APM structure
• Existing client and GC relationships
• A business investing in its Mission Critical capability
• A Houston-based leadership position with limited travel

Your first priority will be making sure the business is ready to successfully deliver the work it has already secured.

What You Will Own

You will have responsibility for the operational leadership and continued development of the Mission Critical group, including:

• Building and structuring teams around upcoming data center projects
• Leading Project Executives, Project Managers and Assistant Project Managers
• Setting projects up correctly through preconstruction and mobilisation
• Providing executive oversight across multiple major electrical packages
• Driving performance across safety, quality, schedule, cost and productivity
• Managing commercial performance, forecasting, contracts, change and risk
• Planning manpower and future resource requirements
• Developing the next generation of operational leadership underneath you
• Strengthening relationships with GCs, clients and project partners
• Supporting the longer-term growth of the Mission Critical business

The Background

This is an electrical construction leadership position.

I am specifically looking to speak with people who have developed their careers within an electrical contractor / electrical subcontractor environment .

You should understand the realities of delivering large electrical packages, the field, labour, manpower, productivity, procurement, schedule, change management and commercial performance that sit behind successful electrical construction.

Your current title could be:

Project Executive / Senior Project Executive / Director of Mission Critical / Director of Operations / Regional Director

More important than the title is having:

• Strong data center / Mission Critical project experience
• A genuine electrical contracting background
• Experience overseeing large electrical scopes and project teams
• Strong understanding of electrical construction operations and the trades
• Experience taking projects from preconstruction and mobilisation into delivery
• The ability to develop PMs, PXs and operational leaders
• Strong commercial understanding of cost, change, forecasting and risk
• The credibility to work with field leadership, project teams, GCs and senior clients

This would not be the natural move for someone whose career has predominantly been within Owner’s Representation, developer-side construction management, consultancy or heavy civil construction.

The electrical contracting experience matters.
