What they need

At Chewy, taking care of pets and the people who love them through the highs, the lows, and the everyday is what drives us. Grounded in that purpose and focused on our mission to be the most trusted and convenient destination for pet parents and partners everywhere, we work every day to help people feel more confident, supported, and capable in caring for the animals they love—showing up with the products, services, care, and guidance they need, whenever they need it.

Bringing that to life takes exceptional leaders. Leadership at Chewy is guided by our Operating Principles, which define how we lead, make decisions, develop talent, serve our customers, and grow our business. We value leaders who think strategically, stay close to the customer, and aren't afraid to roll up their sleeves alongside their teams. They solve complex challenges, build high-performing organizations, and partner closely with senior leaders to shape the future of Chewy.

Our Opportunity Chewy is seeking a Director, Broad-Based Compensation to join our Total Rewards team, reporting directly to the Head of Total Rewards. This leadership opportunity is ideal for an experienced compensation executive who enjoys building high-performing teams, partnering with senior business leaders, and shaping compensation strategy in a fast-growing, evolving organization. This leader will oversee Chewy's Broad-Based Compensation function, leading a team of compensation professionals responsible for supporting enterprise compensation strategy, market competitiveness, and compensation programs across the organization.

What You'll Do

  • Lead, coach, and develop a high-performing team of compensation professionals while creating an environment focused on collaboration, accountability, continuous learning, and exceptional client service.
  • Provide strategic compensation consulting to HR Business Partners and senior business leaders across the enterprise.
  • Drive the evolution of Chewy's broad-based compensation philosophy, programs, and practices to ensure they remain competitive, scalable, and aligned with business strategy.
  • Lead enterprise compensation processes including job architecture, market pricing, organizational design support, salary structures, new hire offers, promotions, transfers, annual compensation planning, and ongoing pay governance.
  • Partner closely with Talent Acquisition to develop competitive hiring strategies in rapidly changing labor markets.
  • Develop analytics and insights that help leaders make informed compensation decisions and proactively identify market trends, pay risks, and opportunities.
  • Oversee governance, compliance, and operational excellence across compensation programs while balancing appropriate controls with business agility.
  • Build strong partnerships across HR, Finance, Legal, Payroll, and business leadership to deliver integrated compensation solutions.
  • Continuously evaluate compensation programs and recommend enhancements that improve the employee experience while supporting Chewy's talent strategy.
  • Optimize business-specific incentive programs and ensure effective administration across multiple business units.
  • Partner with the Head of Total Rewards on enterprise compensation initiatives and strategic projects as needed.

What You'll Need

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Finance, Business, Accounting, Economics, or related field.
  • 15+ years of progressive compensation experience, including significant experience leading broad-based compensation within a large, complex organization.
  • Demonstrated experience leading high-performing compensation teams and developing future leaders.
  • Deep expertise across compensation strategy, market pricing, incentive design, compensation governance, and compensation analytics.
  • Exceptional executive presence with the ability to influence senior leaders through data-driven recommendations.
  • Strong analytical capabilities with advanced Excel skills and experience working with large data sets.
  • Experience working with Workday or similar Human Capital Management systems.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills with the ability to communicate complex compensation concepts to diverse audiences.
  • Experience supporting annual compensation planning, long-term, and short-term incentive programs.

The base salary range for this role is $186,500 - $297,500.00.

  • The specific salary offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors including but not limited to the candidate’s relevant experience, education, and work location. In addition, this position is eligible for 401k and a new hire and annual equity grant. C08+ positions may also be eligible for annual bonus.

We offer different types of insurance and benefits, such as medical/Rx, vision, dental, life, disability, hospital indemnity, critical illness, and accident. We offer parental leave, family services benefits, backup dependent care, flexible spending accounts, telemedicine, pet adoption reimbursement, employee assistance program, and many discounts including 10% off pet insurance and 20% off at Chewy.com.
