Job Description:

Reynolds is one of the largest community colleges in Virginia and serves Virginia’s capital city and five nearby counties. Annually, our four campus sites serve approximately 13,000 credit students and provide training for 7,400 students through the Community College Workforce Alliance. Reynolds is committed to hiring and retaining a racially diverse, culturally competent staff at all levels of the organization who reflect the demographics of our students. We also believe in providing an ongoing investment in our faculty and staff to deepen their skills and competencies to serve the full range of our student population.

Reporting directly to the Associate Vice President of Financial Operations, the Director of Financial Operations is responsible for the day-to-day management, coordination, and oversight of the college's financial operations, including accounting, grants accounting, student financials, financial reporting, and related business functions. The Director supervises functional managers and ensures financial activities are conducted accurately, efficiently, and in compliance with applicable policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.

The Director manages and coordinates fiscal year-end close activities, appropriation and allotment management, financial reconciliations, payroll certifications, cash management activities, and operational internal controls to ensure accuracy, compliance, and continuity of financial operations. The position supports the college's Agency Risk Management and Internal Control Standards (ARMICS) program by monitoring internal controls, coordinating operational compliance activities, and facilitating corrective actions. The Director also coordinates and reviews financial audit activities, including audit requests involving Financial Aid and other college departments, to ensure timely responses, appropriate documentation, and follow-up on audit findings.

The Director supports the operational implementation of the systemwide AdvanceVCCS ERP/EPM cloud platform by coordinating departmental activities, staff training and readiness, data validation, financial reporting, and continuity of financial operations during the transition. The position also oversees the development and maintenance of financial dashboards and operational reports to support financial monitoring, analysis, and management decision-making.

The Director promotes staff development, cross-training, and succession planning within Financial Operations and collaborates with college departments, VCCS, and other stakeholders to resolve operational issues, implement process improvements, and enhance service delivery. Through these responsibilities, the Director supports the Associate Vice President in maintaining effective financial operations, strengthening internal controls, and ensuring accountability and operational continuity.
