Director of Applied Research

For our client, we are seeking a Director of Applied Research to join the team of a leader in the Media space.

This leader will shape the technical direction for AI-driven search and retrieval capabilities that support media products and information experiences. The role sits at the intersection of applied research, machine learning engineering, and product development, turning advanced models into practical solutions that improve discovery and user value. You will guide a high-performing team, partner closely with product stakeholders, and establish the standards used to evaluate quality and effectiveness at scale.

Location: Remote - US based candidates only, no visa sponsorship available

Compensation: $198,200 – $368,000 annually

Responsibilities

• Define and drive the technical vision for AI-powered search and retrieval systems
• Build and lead a team of experts in cloud and machine learning engineering
• Develop enterprise-grade AI solutions integrated with the company's products
• Collaborate with product teams to translate user needs into scalable AI applications
• Establish frameworks to measure the quality and effectiveness of retrieval systems

Qualifications

• PhD in Computer Science or a related field with an AI research focus
• 8+ years of experience building production AI systems
• Track record of transitioning machine learning technologies from research to market
• Strong publication record in top-tier AI/ML conferences
• Experience leading teams and managing cross-functional projects
