About the role

We are seeking an experienced and strategic Director of Human Resources to join our team at Iconic Marjorie Hotel, a Tribute Portfolio. This is a full-time position based in Bayan Lepas Penang. The Director of Human Resources will be responsible for developing and implementing comprehensive HR strategies that align with the hotel's business objectives and enhance our organisational culture. This role is pivotal in driving talent acquisition, employee engagement, performance management and compliance across all departments, ensuring we maintain the highest standards of hospitality excellence whilst creating an environment where our team members can thrive.

Key responsibilities

• Developing and executing strategic human resource plans that support the hotel's business goals and operational excellence
• Overseeing recruitment, selection and onboarding processes to attract and retain top talent across all hotel departments
• Managing employee performance management systems, including appraisals, development plans and succession planning
• Ensuring compliance with Malaysian labour laws, employment regulations and industry best practices
• Leading employee relations and engagement initiatives to foster a positive workplace culture and reduce turnover
• Developing and delivering training and development programmes to enhance staff skills and career progression
• Managing compensation and benefits strategies to remain competitive within the hospitality industry
• Handling disciplinary matters, grievances and conflict resolution with professionalism and discretion
• Collaborating with senior management and department heads to address organisational challenges and implement HR solutions
• Maintaining accurate HR records, documentation and implementing effective information management systems
• Leading the HR team and fostering a collaborative, high-performing department culture

What we're looking for

• A bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration or a related field; professional HR certification (such as CIPD or equivalent) is highly desirable
• Minimum 8-10 years of progressive human resources experience, with at least 3-5 years in a director-level or senior HR management role
• Substantial experience within the hospitality and tourism industry, demonstrating understanding of unique HR challenges in this sector
• Strong knowledge of Malaysian employment law, labour regulations and compliance requirements
• Proven expertise in strategic HR planning, organisational development and change management
• Demonstrated success in recruitment and talent acquisition, particularly within a multi-departmental environment
• Excellent leadership and people management skills with the ability to inspire and develop teams
• Strong commercial acumen with the ability to align HR strategy with business objectives and manage budgets effectively
• Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships across all levels of the organisation
• Advanced proficiency in HR information systems and Microsoft Office applications
• Ability to work strategically whilst maintaining attention to detail and managing multiple priorities
• Experience with employee engagement, wellness programmes and fostering inclusive workplace cultures is advantageous
