Director of Software

About the Role

We are working with a well-funded, rapidly growing technology company seeking a Director of Software Engineering to lead and develop its software engineering function.

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced engineering leader to take ownership of technical strategy, team development and software delivery within an ambitious organisation.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead, mentor and develop software engineering teams, supporting both individual and organisational growth.
• Help define and execute the company's technical strategy and software development roadmap.
• Oversee software development projects, ensuring successful delivery and high engineering standards.
• Work closely with engineering teams to support architectural decisions, technical problem-solving and system development.
• Identify opportunities to improve engineering processes, team efficiency and software quality.
• Collaborate with senior leadership and other departments to align engineering priorities with business objectives.
• Support recruitment, team development and the continued growth of the engineering organisation.

Required Qualifications

• Strong background in software engineering, with experience in a leadership or management position.
• Experience managing, mentoring or building software engineering teams.
• Solid understanding of software architecture, system design and modern development practices.
• Experience overseeing software development projects and delivering technical solutions.
• Ability to balance technical decision-making with people management and business priorities.
• Strong communication, collaboration and problem-solving skills.
• Experience working in a fast-paced or growing engineering environment is advantageous.

Desirable Experience

• Experience scaling engineering teams or helping establish engineering processes.
• Background in complex software systems, infrastructure, cloud platforms or distributed systems.
• Experience working in startups, scale-ups or technically demanding organisations.
• Previous experience as an Engineering Manager, Senior Engineering Manager, Head of Engineering or Director of Engineering.
• Experience working closely with hardware or multidisciplinary engineering teams.
