Director, Semantic & Knowledge Engineering

For our client, we are seeking a Director, Semantic & Knowledge Engineering to join the team of a leader in the Pharmaceuticals & Biotech space.

This role will lead the development of semantic technologies and knowledge engineering capabilities that strengthen the organization's data foundation for AI and analytics. You will shape the ontologies, taxonomies, and knowledge graph strategies that enable better contextual search, reusable knowledge assets, and scalable information architecture. The position will partner closely with cross-functional teams to embed semantic capabilities into products and advance enterprise AI initiatives.

Location: Remote - US based candidates only, no visa sponsorship available

Compensation: $194,600 – $361,400 annually

Responsibilities

• Lead the design and implementation of ontologies, taxonomies, and semantic models for the enterprise
• Develop and maintain knowledge graphs and services for AI and analytics
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate semantic capabilities into products
• Establish metadata standards and quality controls for knowledge assets
• Support AI initiatives with foundational semantic work for RAG and contextual search
• Assess emerging technologies and propose enhancements to architecture
• Mentor semantic engineers and promote reusable engineering practices

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or advanced degree in Computer Science, Information Science, Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Bioinformatics, or a related field
• 8+ years of experience in semantic technologies, knowledge engineering, or enterprise information architecture
• Hands-on expertise with ontologies, RDF/OWL, knowledge graphs, and metadata management
• Proven experience implementing semantic solutions for AI and analytics
• Strong leadership and communication skills for managing cross-functional teams
