Director, Software Engineering, Reuters

For our client, we are seeking a Director, Software Engineering to join the team of a leader in the Media space.

This leader is looking for a technology executive who can shape the architecture and execution of a customer-facing content platform at scale. The role will partner closely with editorial and operational stakeholders to translate newsroom workflows into reliable technical capabilities. You will guide platform delivery, strengthen uptime and production support, and develop a high-performing engineering organization that can deliver with speed and discipline.

Location: Remote - US based candidates only, no visa sponsorship available

Compensation: $158,900 – $295,100 annually

Responsibilities

• Own the technical architecture and roadmap for the content management platform
• Establish uptime and reliability standards for the production platform
• Translate newsroom workflows into platform requirements with editorial stakeholders
• Lead platform delivery teams, managing release and production support
• Build and mentor a high-performing engineering organization
• Communicate technical strategy and tradeoffs to diverse audiences

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent experience
• 10+ years in software engineering, including 4+ years in management
• Proven ownership of a production platform serving external customers at scale
• Deep knowledge of AWS, serverless architecture, and distributed systems
• Experience with microservices architecture and containerization, including Docker and Kubernetes
• Strong communication skills for technical concepts across various stakeholders
